The 2007 NPC JR. USA Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championship Review.

Nearly 200 competitors took the stage for the Jr. USA Championships. Continue here as I break down each division starting with NPC Fitness. Here are the competitors who came out on top!

Presented by Mona Vie

Nearly 200 competitors took the stage in Charleston. South Carolina on April 28, 2007. Two women walked away with IFBB Pro Figure cards while others are left to contemplate what their next show will be.

Fitness

Let's break it down by respective divisions starting with NPC fitness. There were two classes up to and including 5'3" and Over 5'3". The short class had 5 women while the tall had six women. Eleven total competitors entered in the show, follows the continued trend that it's easier for women to compete in Figure than it is in Fitness.

The routines are the most entertaining part of any NPC show, in my opinion, and unfortunately at this show most of the routines seemed to be in slow motion. There were a couple of routines that had the high energy and great strength moves included but for the most part the routines were not to a national level. The short class winner, Bethany Wagner from Boun Brook, NJ took the overall title besting the tall class winner, Desiree Walker.

Women's Bodybuilding

The women's bodybuilding had 16 total competitors in the mix. Lightweight winner Tammy Patnode got the nod for the overall, showing that it's not all about how big you are but how complete the package is. She was the deserved winner over the other class winners.

Maureen Meehan took the Middleweights with straight ones, Tracey Toth was victorious in the light heavyweight division and Audrey Turner won the Heavyweight class. Two of the best presenters and most attractive female bodybuilders in the show were Holly Bacola, who placed second in the light heavyweight division and Ann Caliri who placed second in the middleweight division.

Figure

The figure classes were jam packed and with their being six height classes it made the judging a little easier but not by much. All the class winners could easily stand on stage as IFBB Pros and I'd venture to guess most of them will along with some other top 5 finishers.

In the short class Huong Arcinas won decidedly over the others. She fell in the two piece but I don't see how. She is only 4'10 3/4 but has a very balanced and pleasing physique. She will turn pro this year, no question about it and she will be able to hang with the pros without much trouble.

Another shorty to keep your eye on is Jennifer Gates who placed third but has a very good look to her. She was edged out of second place by two points. The Figure B class Valerie Haines was the winner and also walked away with the second pro card.

The C class had Amy Wilson as the winner followed by the 2007 Emerald Cup winner, Erin Heath. Another one to keep your eye on in the shows to come is Heather Green. Heather is a mother of two but you wouldn't know it by the physique she displays. Her color as a little off, but look for her to be an IFBB Pro this year.

Melissa Pearo was the winner in the D class besting the beautiful Krissy Chin. Krissy is another woman who I believe will be an IFBB Pro before 2007 is over.

Paola Almerico took the overall title along with the Figure E class, but more importantly she becomes an IFBB Figure pro. She told Lonnie Teper and I after the show that she plans to compete as a pro this year but will decide on which show later, possibly the Europa Super show. The Figure F Class winner was Melissa Griffin in a tough tall class.

Men's Bodybuilding

The Men's bodybuilding had some solid competitors in the show. It is a great show for many guys to get their feet went on the National stage and get a sense of what it is like to compete on the next level. Wayne Hugar took the Bantamweight class and James Williams bested Joe Vu in the lightweight division.

Guy Cisternino Jr. packed a good deal of muscle for a middleweight and took top honors in this class. David Griffin was victorious over Shawn Mack and Scott Mittlestaedt. This was the toughest of all the classes and the judges brought the top three out for another look at the end of the class prejudging.

It was close and every competitor received at least one first place vote. I would have given the nod to Shawn Mack because he's from Colorado, just kidding. Shawn had the best set of wheels in the show but his upper body lags behind. If he can bring up his upper body he'll have a more complete package.

David got better as the show went on and looked good. Christopher Hobbs took the men's heavyweight class while Mike Horn received straight ones in the super heavyweight class.

The super heavy class only had 4 guys and the quality fell off drastically after Mike. Mike had a run for his money in the overall posedown but proved that is massive frame was too much to overcome. He's been around for awhile and plans to compete again later this summer.

Branch Warren was two weeks out from the New York Pro show and was looking thick and in good condition. He gave the crowd a good look at what's to come in the big apple from him. This was a very well run show. Lonnie Teper did an excellent job as always at the mic, and as predicted a few competitors came away with new nicknames.
