In the spirit of trying as many different brand names and flavors of protein powder that I can get my hands on, I decided to give Higher Power's 100% Whey Power a chance. After reviewing the nutritional information, I realized that it generally had what I was looking for, and the price was very cheap - this being mainly due to lack of huge campaigns to promote its sale online or off. It is also sold directly from the supplier to the consumer without any additional steps so that also keeps the cost down. Berry, chocolate, and vanilla flavors were all available and I decided to give berry a shot.
I loved this shake recipe and it made the shakes exactly as I expected them. It tasted somewhat grainy, but that is to be expected of any protein blends.
Highly recommended for those seeking a protein supplement but are on a budget and can do with a brand name which does not cost more due to high-end marketing. This is another A+ supplement in my book, and rest assured, if I didn't feel that way, I would have no problems telling you!
I just received a jug of Higher Power 100% Whey Power protein powder; after reading the ingredients I was impressed with the quality. I have never used any products from Higher Power so I was excited to see if this product was right for me. I tried my first shake in the morning with cold milk and some berries. The product did not seem to blend well but after about 2-3 min of blending first with a spoon and then a blender it was fine. The taste was a little bland for me but I am use to drinking drinks with lots of sugar in it, like pop or iced tea.
I am using the protein as a way to help me reach my weight loss goals. I use the shakes as meal replacements - the shakes are both filling as well as full of all the nutrition and vitamins I need in a meal. I like adding berries, peanut butter and flax seed oil to the shakes... they tasted great. I also did some research on whey protein and how it not only helps you lose weight but also gain muscle in the gym. Higher Power contains little fat or cholesterol; this is important to me because I am trying to cut down on both. The powder also contains little carbohydrates or sugar and has no Aspartame which I was looking for when I was choosing a protein powder. I find that using this product will help me reach my goals and I would recommend this protein powder because it contains 100 percent whey protein which is a rich source of the essential amino acids needed on a daily basis by the body. Also, whey protein is an excellent protein choice for individuals of all ages. It provides a number of benefits in areas including sports nutrition, weight management, immune support, normal bone health, and general wellness.
The price is also right, with the prices of protein powder going up this product is the best bang for the buck at a price of $32.99 for a five pound tub. You can't ask for more.
I've been weightlifting for about eight years. I started bodybuilding three years ago. One of the first things a trainer will tell you is that it's very important to get protein to your muscles in the two hour anabolic window after your workout (some recommend as soon as 15 minutes post-workout to fill these needs with protein consumption). I've tried tons of different brands and flavors of protein powder over the years, 100% Whey Power is by far one of the best I have ever tried. I usually get chocolate or vanilla, but I decided to try Higher Power's berry flavor.
I found that this whey protein mixed well with either skim milk or water and the taste was great. The mixability of this product was by far the best I have ever seen. I didn't experience any clumping or leftover residue in my cup. It didn't matter whether I was blending it or just mixing with a spoon, it dissolved 100%.
The first supplement people will decide to take when first starting on the journey that is training is a protein powder. Whey protein is almost essential to any good weight lifting routine and a lot of times the first powder you chose will impact your starting results a lot. 100% Whey Power is a protein blend of whey protein concentrate, isolate and hydrolyzed whey peptides. These are all different forms of whey protein that dissolve in your body at vary speeds allowing for a fast hit of protein for your body right after a workout and then some slow absorption time so your body does not run out of fuel before you leave the gym.
This is why knowing the ingredients in your protein blend are essential to a great choice. So now that we know it contains the 3 major types of protein that are good for post workout, what else does this product have to offer? For one it contains a great profile of amino acids since it is made from whey. Containing 25g of protein per 34 gram scoop, giving it a protein concentration greater than 73% and also having 5g of carbohydrates is understandable. The amount of carbohydrates in in this whey protein is a bit higher than other by a couple grams. Considering how flavorful and sweet this protein is it is obvious where those extra carbohydrates are coming from. One thing I did not like about this powder was the difficulty I had stirring it in a normal cup. If the scoop was not dead center in the glass it would start to stick to the sides, and that is wasted protein and money that's going to go down the drain when you wash that cup. As most chocolate flavors the only flavor added besides the artificial ones and sucralose is cocoa powder, so I was expecting it to have a slight bitter chocolate taste to it, which I like and it had.
A couple negative comments I would like to make is the outrageous amount of cholesterol in this product, there is whopping 80mg or 26% of your daily value for the average person. This was a big hit for me when looking at the nutrition facts, overlooked by most the cholesterol can add up especially when compared to other brands. The majority of other brands range from 0% to 10% daily values of cholesterol but this one took the cake, or at least the cholesterol you would find in that cake. For the low cost of $32.99 for a 5 lbs jug it is not a bad protein as long as you watch the rest of your diet. The strong negatives are the cholesterol, sugar and fat levels in the protein which can be a turn off for people who take more than the 1 scoop a day.
The upsides however can out "whey" the bad with a great combination of whey protein sources, low cost and great taste it might just be the protein for you. As far as protein powders go however, this one was not my favorite and would not take it myself due to my diet. There is no reason to add another protein powder full of sweeteners and cholesterol. My overall ranking for this product is 6.5 out of 10. Although I love the protein combination the high cholesterol intake when taking 2-4 scoops a day is too much.
My review is in response to sampling the supplement known as 100% Whey Power by Higher Power Nutrition. The taste of it is quite similar to All Natural PURE WPI which is made by Bioplex Nutrition. The smell of the powder was not significant but the taste was very good. My recommendation is that you mix it with soy milk rather than milk. Although soy is twice as expensive, it tastes fine and is organic and does not have lactose which makes your muscles prematurely tired as compared to a soy drinker. Start off with chocolate flavor if you have to.
Unfortunately, I cannot stop drinking it. However, in the few days that I have been taking this supplement, I noticed that my body looked more muscular among other things. Even with the shipping cost, each pound works out to less than eight dollars. If you were to go to Wal-Mart, the price would be between two and two and a halve times more expensive. Also, they do not carry supplements of this quality rather they carry those which can be sold cheaper and sold to anybody who has a varied liking for a chocolate protein shake made by anyone. Perhaps the reason of the low price is because Higher Power does not spend much on advertising and promotions which means that they are able to concentrate on having a better product while meeting their allocated budget. Also, the middleman is left out of the picture which provides additional savings. If you replace only one out of three meals per day using this, you will save over a hundred dollars a month easily. If you want to keep up a good metabolism, I would recommend eating six small meals a day so in this case you can use a scoop to two of this product twice a daily. Just be sure to eat protein from other sources so as a bodybuilder you will meet the basic requirement of having a gram of protein per pound of body mass; on a daily basis.
Higher Power Nutrition is an established manufacturer and is known for high-quality products. This product contains an adequate amount of amino acids which aids in weightlifting activities. For re-ordering, just go back to this page, or call toll free at 1-866-236-8969. I was unable to find this product on eBay. I am sure eBay would be more expensive if offered. The flavor I have sampled and which is quite good is chocolate. Be sure to visit the store to get nutritional information for this and other flavors. Other flavors are cookies and cream, strawberry and vanilla. My rating for this chocolate flavor of Higher Power's 100% Whey Power is a 9 out of 10. Recommend this article to a friend by e-mail here!
