Will Creatine Help Me Add Strength?
Will creatine help with increasing my strength? My benching has slowed down as far as adding weight goes and that's why I'm asking.
Creatine should help with the strength of your bench press. This supplement
allows one to perform more work than they would typically be capable of
without supplementing. As I have mentioned before, my preference is FSI's (Eight Ball Nutrition)
Creatine products.
While creatine will help for some time, the question should be why
your benching has plateaued. I find some of the following points to be the
most common.
1. Does not have correct technique. Even though the bodybuilding method of
benching will produce appreciable gains for some time, it often neglects the
strong role the lats, glutes, hamstrings, and triceps have in a really
strong bench.
2. Does not employ the maximal effort or dynamic effort methods. This is
outlined on Keats Snideman's "Periodization for Bodybuilding" article.
3. Does not perform enough tricep or lat work. Any great bencher will tell you
that a strong bench has less to do with the chest and more with the triceps,
delts, and lats. That is why dips, jm presses, close grip bench variations,
overhead pressing, and chin-up variations are all very helpful.
4. Only performing the bench press. As I mentioned above, you need to
emphasize different aspects of the bench to break plateaus. Using a floor
press, pin press, and close grip bench press are only of a few variations that
might break your plateau.
Read up on some of these methods and I guarantee your plateau will no longer
exist.
