[ Q ] How did the gym start and why did you decide to work within the gym business?
Perth Ultimate Fitness started when a local gym, Total Image Health Club, was up for sale. The owner was looking at getting out of the gym business and threatened to close it down by Memorial Day. Since one of us regularly trained there and considered it one of the best gyms in the area, we couldn't see the gym go and saw it as a great opportunity. With the whole family's help we took it over in July 2009 and it's been going great ever since. We've made a lot of progress in that year, and much more will come in the years to come.
[ Q ] Can you give us a description on what went into opening your awesome establishment?
When we first took over the facility the biggest thing to be done was letting the public know we were under new management to attract members. A lot of work went into marketing, contacting older members, etc. We also spent a lot of time cleaning the facility to ensure we had a clean and clutter free environment for people to work out in.
[ Q ] What makes your gym different?
As a family owned and operated gym we want everybody to feel they are in an environment where just about anybody can meet their goals, whether it is a bodybuilder, powerlifter, or somebody just interested in improving their health through exercise. Regardless of age, sex, or size we want everybody to feel comfortable and motivated to meet there goals.
We also are the only boxing facility within a 25 or 30 mile radius. We have an entire room dedicated to our boxing program with various equipment, including a full size ring. The instructor, Joe Sagarese has sent two fighters from our facility to State Championships. Jason Trembley was declared most outstanding fighter at the New York State Amateur Boxing quarterfinals and finished in second place in the middleweight division at the state finals. Nando King of Amsterdam also trains at Perth Ultimate Fitness and finished second as well at the state finals in the heavyweight division.
We also have a large indoor arena for events. We've already held our first strongman competition this summer, and even though it down poured outside we were fine in the arena and everybody had a blast. We plan on having many more events like this in the future.

[ Q ] What sort of people do you attract into your gym?
Our members are very diverse. We have bodybuilders, figure competitors, strength athletes, as well as people just looking at getting in shape, and at all different age groups. We are also working hard to attract younger members by offering a reduced cost for juniors (under 17) as well as offering a special Zumbatomics class for children 4-15. We believe in keeping kids active, and there's no way better than by keeping it fun.
[ Q ] What inspires people to train at you facility?
It's a very friendly atmosphere. Everybody is willing to help each other out and motivate each other. We are also always open to suggestions, we even have a suggestions book right at the front desk where people can give anonymous suggestions.
[ Q ] Do you have any top trainers and why are they so good?
We currently have three trainers on staff and all three are great at what they do.
Jeremy Rowback, manager of Perth Ultimate Fitness, has had years of experience improving his own body and getting very strong. Having competed at powerlifting events and doing very well, he definitely knows a thing or two about getting into shape and moving heavy weight. His biggest asset is his ability to motivate others. People feel very comfortable with him and feel as though they can easily reach their goals. His ability to motivate others has shown in his clients progresses.

Andrew Rowback, also a manage of Perth Ultimate Fitness, fell in love with weight lifting when initially losing nearly 85lbs of bodyfat and then started looking into gaining muscle mass. However, what really kick started his interest in becoming a personal trainer and helping others is that he was very unhappy with most of the mainstream diet & training advice out there. Too much of it is just BS to try to sell a product, or just old diet myths that refuse to die even though science proves otherwise. This is where his passion is - he is constantly reading and staying on top of the latest research to figure out what works and why it works.. He takes a very science-based approach and concentrates on diet and training dealing with body recomposition - either through means of gaining muscle mass or losing body fat.

Two members that really stick out are Dan Curtin and Theresa Jordan. Both are very interested in physique sports and successful in their respective sports. Theresa has done both female bodybuilding and figure competitions, while Dan does bodybuilding. Both are also very knowledgeable and always willing to help out others also interested in the sport. We are definitely glad to have them here.
[ Q ] What was the hardest part about operating your gym?
Getting people here to see how big we really are. This is mainly an issue due to location. We are in the middle of a rural area, but not along any major roads like other gyms. Most people interested in the gym do not know where we are unless they are familiar with the area.
