How Did You Get Started?

I was born and raised in a small town in Albany, Georgia. Fitness has been a part of my life since childhood. As punishment growing up, my mom used to make me run 20 laps around the house (I won presidential fitness award every year in grade school!) As I grew older, the punishment changed into attending my mom's 5:30 a.m. spinning class for a month whenever I missed curfew.

After a while, I began to love the feeling of coming to class energized with a clear mind, and I began to see my grades go up - I was officially hooked to exercise. When I started becoming a teenager, I was stick thin and people used to joke about me. Instead of saying, "nice butt!" guys would say, "Hey Hoots! Nice pelvis!" It hurt my confidence, because I never felt 'hot' or 'curvy.' At age 18, I was tall; straight up and down; I felt like a 12-year-old boy.

I began lifting and working out when I started college, but didn't know how to workout without my mom's spinning class or a group instructor, so I began to read Oxygen Magazine. I immediately was drawn to Jamie Eason's healthy figure and loved her feminine curves while maintaining a strong, athletic tone. After learning more, and changing the way I was eating and training, I really began to fall in love with weight training. During the summer of 2009, I dated a cage fighter who encouraged me to pursue competing. One day in the gym, I saw a huge bodybuilder posing in the mirror and got up the nerve to walk over and ask him about competing. He took a good long look at me and told me things I needed to work on, and together, we picked a show to work toward … the rest is history!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I get my workouts in around 1 p.m. between classes and lift as heavy as possible to keep muscle on my figure … I tend to have a small frame that loses muscle easily. I do cardio about three days per week, and mountain bike and box for fun on the weekends or during the week if I have time.

Eat Clean Diet. Meals remain consistent throughout the week for the most part.

Why Do You Love Fitness/Bodybuilding?

Watching my body transform is like my own personal science experiment! I get to know my body on such an intimate level. I can feel what it needs and what it's trying to tell me. I love being so in touch with myself and knowing that my body loves me for how well I treat it with healthy habits.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

I'm super competitive, so when I set a goal I do everything in my power to see it through to the end. Sure, I might have to adjust some deadlines periodically, but I WILL follow through.

What Are Your Future Fitness/Bodybuilding Plans?

I want to become an IFBB Bikini Pro, have more fitness modeling opportunities, and be on the cover of Oxygen and Status Fitness Magazine! Also, I want to start my own brand, Sundar Fitness, which is Sanskrit for beauty. I think true beauty comes from the harmony between the inner and the outer self, and I want to strive to make young girls realize that and begin taking care of themselves inside and out early on in life.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?
  • Know everyone on stage is as nervous as you are.
  • Don't show up super early to the competition or you will become increasingly nervous.
  • Don't check all the other girls out when you compete. What are you going to do about it? You are not the judge and you don't know what they look for. Instead, try to learn something from EVERY person you meet regardless of whether you like them or not. Sure, some of their philosophies may sound crazy, but always have an open mind and never ever burn a bridge - the industry is very small.

Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?

Ava Cowan, Nathalia Melo, and Tianna Ta - she is such a sweetheart! I also am loving Tanji Johnson because of her work ethic and faith in God.
