Q

How did your fitness journey begin?

I was born and raised in Poland. I'm married to a Coast Guard diver who's all about working out and eating healthy. As a military wife, I deal with constant location upheaval and my husband's extended deployments. It's not easy and puts lots of stress on the family, especially because we have a little boy.

My fitness journey started in March 2009. It was the beginning of a new lifestyle for me. My son was two years old and I purchased a jogging stroller and started a mission to run to the gym. I was surprised when I couldn't make it one mile. I was a skinny-fat, out-of-shape girl. I needed to do something and decided to fully focus on my health.

In two years, I went from skinny and bony to lean and confident with muscles. When I saw how my body changed, I decided to compete at my first bikini show in June 2011. When I started, I weighed exactly the same as I do today, but my body composition changed dramatically. I dropped a few dress sizes, lost a few inches, and my body fat fell from 19 to 11 percent.

How did your passion for fitness emerge?

My fitness journey started when we were stationed on the beautiful island of Guam. I joined the gym and started participating in fitness classes, hiking, and doing 5Ks. I discovered my passion and was hooked. My girlfriends joined the gym (a few were fitness instructors and personal trainers) and inspired me to become a personal trainer. A few of my friends competed too. I watched their amazing body transformations and was ready to challenge myself like never before. My dreams came true and I stepped on the stage for the first time in July 2011.

What/Who motivates you to live a healthy lifestyle?

My motivation comes from within. I want to be better today than yesterday. My motivation stays consistent and my desire to be healthy and fit is so strong that I don't need outside influence to stay motivated. Fitness, like life, is about the journey, not the destination.

Where did you go for inspiration?

On days when I'm tired and the inner voice says "take a day off" I don't listen. I put my workout shoes and headset on, and imagine the girl who will stand on stage next to me. I don't want to look back with regret that I could've done better.

What are your future fitness plans?

I'm preparing for the WBFF Edmond Championships in October. I'll be competing in the diva fitness model division. I want to help people reach their goals and inspire and motivate them to pass on the gift I've been given. I'll continue being strong physically and mentally for my family, especially during my husband's deployments, and stay committed to my dreams.

What is the most important fitness tip?

Always strive to be your best self. When you try your best, you can't ask anymore from yourself. Compete against yourself, not others. You are your best competition. Believe in yourself, have faith in your abilities, and never give up on your dreams.

Who is your favorite fitness competitor?

All competitors are great inspiration. They're already champions before stepping on stage. They've put in time, hard work, heart, dedication, and made sacrifices.

How did Bodybuilding.com help you reach your goals?

I love Bodybuilding.com. All the supplements my body needs for peak performance come from Bodybuilding.com. The site is full of articles about nutrition, training, and supplementation. I also connect with people from around the world on BodySpace for motivation and inspiration.
