I got started in training and dieting when I saw myself in a picture and started to feel uncomfortable with my body. So I joined a boxing club with a friend and from there I started to lose weight. I started to eat right and cut out the late night snacks. I then lost 10 more pounds and felt great about it. I had somebody contact me regarding a fitness competition that was in town and asked me to enter into it. I decided to do it. Once I got there, I noticed there were a lot of really fit girls and I wasn't on that level of fitness yet.
I had such a blast at the competition that I decided to really lean down a lot more and get more muscle definition so I could compete in other fitness competitions.
I got started by asking a friend I met at one of the fitness competition to train me to lean down for competition. She helped me learn what foods are good for building up muscle mass and leaning out bodyfat. I had to up my water intake and cut out all soda and sugar based snacks. I really learned a lot from my trainer. I started to cut out breads, high carb foods, stopped eating out as much, and started eating more veggies. Of course any diet will be hard to start but once you start eating it for a few weeks then it becomes natural and you don't even think about it.
I also had a lot of help from a close friend of mine. He helped keep me on my diet and helped me say no to grabbing for that bread basket at dinner.
Snack: Lunch: Snack: Dinner: If I was still hungry I would make another shake or eat something with protein in it. No carbs after 6pm. I usually mixed it up everyday from fish (mahi mahi or halibut) to turkey, grilled chicken, and tuna with cumin and green onions for lunch and dinners.
I try to mix up my cardio with hiking, basketball, and anything that gets my blood flowing. Then I would add in 5 sets of 5 reps twice a week until I built up more muscle mass. I bulk up for 2 months then lean down for one month.
