I recently got a chance to hook up with former 202 Division Mr. Olympia, David Henry as he prepares for the 2010 IFBB Europa Battle of Champions in Hartford, CT later this month. He is arguably one of the thickest, most muscular athletes pound for pound competing in the IFBB today. Henry won his IFBB Pro card back in 2002 as a middleweight, and he became one of the IFBB's biggest super stars by adding a staggering 30lbs of muscle to his frame, here is what the former 202 Mr. Olympia had to say.

[ Brian Bullman ] Hey David, I understand you are getting ready to compete for the first time this year, how are you feeling this close to the show?

[ Dave Henry ] I actually feel really good despite being kind of tired all the time. I get almost no carbs except for training days and how much of that I won't go into. But overall I felt ready 2 weeks ago, so now it's just a matter of slowly getting to the "crispy-ness" I want to achieve! Oh and it's working like a mo-fo!

[ BB ] Competing as a pro, while also serving in the military must have some limitations, has your service affected your training in anyway?

[ DH ] No, not really. I have been fortunate to have great leadership that looks up to me from the top all the way down. I train after work so I don't take duty time to attend to my other career. I know people have excuses for not achieving things, but that's not my thing.

[ BB ] You placed 2nd at the Olympia Showdown, how did that make you feel since you were the defending champ and have you made any changes in your diet/training over the last couple of weeks coming into this contest?

[ DH ] That second placing was not sitting well with me. I could see if I did not do everything that I could to secure that victory, but I couldn't see anything I overlooked. I'm still a little salty on the whole thing but that will change shortly. My diet is the same except for minor tweaks that my training partner Scott has made. Other than that, the philosophy has not changed. Don't fix what ain't broke.

[ BB ] As a judge, I have to admit that you have one of the thickest and most muscular physiques I have ever had the privilege to judge, tell me something about what changes you've made to your physique this year, if any?

[ DH ] I wanted more muscularity on my physique, so that has been the focus. I wanted to see things that no other Pro on this level could achieve with regards to overall size and crazy thick, striated muscle. My training partner Scott Stevenson and I also wanted to concentrate on bringing up muscularity in my overall leg development too.

[ BB ] With a few more Pro shows to go before the Olympia, will we see you onstage again, in any more contests between now and the big O?

[ DH ] After the Hartford, CT Europa 202, I will be competing in the Jacksonville Pro 202.

[ BB ] Being a sponsored athlete must have both advantages and disadvantages; can you give the fans an insight as to how this affects you as an athlete?

[ DH ] Being a sponsored athlete is an advantage all around. Why would I have anything to say negative about it?! When you have the best company on the planet representing you and you back up their beliefs by being one of the best in the world, it's a win-win situation. By the company, I mean MuscleTech of course! It actually helps to keep you focused on being the best and keeps your head in the game when you seem a little out of sorts on where you want to go in this industry.

[ BB ] Yes, MuscleTech has made a huge impact on how successful athletes can be. What supplements do you use to get that ultra ripped look you had when you won the 202 Olympia Showdown?

[ DH ] I only use Muscletech supplements and for that, it's the Hydroxycut Hardcore for thermogenesis, NaNOVapor for the pre workout rush, and Nitro-Tech for the protein requirements I have to have. But with all that, the supplements are not going to work if you don't put forth the efforts in the gym to maximize the results. My DC training is the additional result of hard, grainy intensity.

[ BB ] The Olympia, I want a prediction for David Henry, let us have it?

[ DH ] The only prediction I can state is that I am not done by a long shot and that I will once again become the Mr. Olympia 202 Showdown Champion. Hell I didn't lose the last one in my eyes!

[ BB ] That's all for now David thanks for taking the time out this close to the show to talk to us.

[ DH ] It's never a problem man! Just words, bro, I can handle that part! Thank you for the opportunity.
