Dr. Chris Lockwood earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and his M.S. in Exercise & Sports Science.



Background

Dr. Chris Lockwood earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and his M.S. in Exercise and Sports Science. Lockwood has authored, co-authored and peer reviewed more than 25 research manuscripts detailing the physiological effects of nutritional, dietary supplement and/or training interventions and their respective or combined effects on human metabolism, endocrine function, body composition, human performance and health.

Dr. Lockwood also authored and co-authored three book/textbook chapters: Creatine (Sports Supplement Encyclopedia, 1st Edition, 2001), An Overview of Sports Supplements (Essentials of Sports Nutrition and Supplements, 2008) and Nutritional Ergogenic Aids (Nutritional Concerns in Recreation, Exercise, and Sport, 2009).

He penned several hundred consumer magazine articles and columns and served as Editor-in-Chief of Muscle & Fitness and Muscle & Fitness Hers while still a full-time graduate research assistant/student and Nutrition professor at the University of Oklahoma.

Dr. Lockwood's vast and unique industry experience includes formerly serving as the Senior Category Director of the more than $260 million Diet, Energy, Food and Beverage category for General Nutrition Centers (GNC). He served as Senior Brand Manager of ABB/Science Foods (formerly owned by Weider Nutrition, Int), Vice President of Research & Business Development for the brand and business development consulting firm Gerstner & Associates, and he formulated and co-formulated more than 100 sports nutrition and related dietary supplements.

Dr. Lockwood is the patent inventor on a protein agglomeration process (US#20040071825), member and former Vice President of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and member of the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and co-developed the NSCA's first Nationally Accredited Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) exam by serving an appointed position on its Certification Commission Job Analysis Committee.

Currently, Dr. Lockwood is the CEO of Applied Physiology Nutrition, LLC (www.apnutrition.org), a research, discovery and executive business consulting firm specific to companies which supply or compete within the dietary supplement, sports nutrition and natural products industries.
