The BodySpace Member of the Month for February 2009 is 5krunner. He was chosen because he is using nearly every applicable feature of BodySpace, and making it look very impressive!
[ Q ] I see that you've been a BodySpace member since January of 2008. How did you find out about BodySpace and what made you join?
Well, I was looking to get back in shape and was searching the net looking for some extra motivation and I found that motivation when I accidentally came across BodySpace. Reading about other people's success really helped me get started.

[ Q ] Have you ever met any BodySpacers in person?
I have only met a couple, but look forward to meeting more in the future. There are so many great people on BodySpace and they really help keep me motivated to be the best I can be.

[ Q ] When friends and coworkers are asking you about how you stay fit, what seems to be the most common misconception that you've noticed?
The most common misconception about weight loss and getting fit is that some people still believe that you have to starve yourself and eat less often. The 5-6 meals per day thing can be hard for some to understand.
[ Q ] What was the first concert you ever went to see?

[ Q ] When you were younger, did you ever imagine yourself being in such great shape in your 40's?
To be honest I never really thought about it. I guess when you're younger you pretty much live in the moment.
[ Q ] What do you find to be the most difficult part of staying so fit?
Probably the getting up at 4:30 a.m. every morning to get my cardio done before work. Also, just making the diet and exercise a daily habit/lifestyle took some time too.

[ Q ] What do you do for a living, and how do you compare for the most part with your co-workers. Are they mostly fit like you, or mostly not so fit?
I have been an elementary school teacher for the past 17 years. I'm currently teaching 4th Grade. Overall, my profession is a pretty unfit one I have to say, but there are a few others that I have worked with that have made diet/nutrition and exercise a priority.
I am currently working with a couple on getting their nutrition and exercise plans down and that has been very exciting to be a part of their transformations.
[ Q ] If somebody is just starting out with a goal of becoming fit, what would your best advice be for a new person?
I would say to start by getting a good nutrition plan in place and then depending on their exact goals, a cardio and weight lifting program/schedule. I would also tell them that to get fit and stay fit they have to make this a lifestyle and stick with it even if they have a bad day or two.

As hard as it is, a person just starting out has to be persistent and patient and remember that getting fit and in great shape is more like a marathon than a sprint.
[ Q ] If you could go any place right now, where would you go?
Any place where it's warm and sunny! These MN winters get cold and long!
[ Q ] What are 3 things you can't live without?
- My cardio (running) & my weights
- My daughter & wife
- Ketchup... I love the stuff!

[ Q ] What is the most fun experience you've ever had in your life?
Well, I'd have to say that the birth of my daughter was the most exciting, but also losing enough fat to finally see my abs and running a mile in less than 5:30 was pretty rewarding too.
