[ Q ] How did you get involved with Bodybuilding.com?
dot

The first time I met with Bodybuilding.com was back at the 2008 Olympia. My goal going into the Olympia was to network with as many companies as I could to promote the sport of Wheelchair Bodybuilding as a whole.

Then the next month I was granted to put on the 1st IFBB Pro Wheelchair Bodybuilding Show and I contacted them again for Sponsorship for the show. They liked who I was and my cause and shortly after I became part of the team.

[ Q ] Have you met any BodySpacers in person?
dot

Yeah, I've met multiple BodySpacers when I worked the Iron Man and Arnold Expo. There are many amazing people on BodySpace and I even met my girlfriend through BodySpace.

[ Q ] Your before and after photos are amazing. When you gained weight after your accident, what made you decide to not only lose the weight, but to take yourself to the limit and become a champion bodybuilder?
dot

Thank you! It's been a long journey. I felt like a freak and I couldn't do anything, so I thought if I couldn't do anything the one thing I could be is stronger then everybody. So then I started bench pressing again.

But how the whole Wheelchair Bodybuilding came about was when I first competed in March of 2006, that night I was amazed with the sport and I wanted to the world to know about it so when I got home I googled "how to build a website".

I built www.wheelchair-bodybuilding.com and I wanted to lead by example. I just wanted to be the best I could be so people took me seriously. That is what led me to being the best that I could be.

[ Q ] Are there any mistakes you made when you first started Bodybuilding?
dot

When I first started everybody knows diet and nutrition is important but it was until I started competing that I learned diet and nutrition is everything. My diet and nutrition was my biggest mistake.

[ Q ] You've competed in many contests and won so many awards. Which contest did you enjoy doing the most so far?
dot

I live for the Night Show! My goal is to entertain the fans. But the BFE (Boise Fit Expo) was AMAZING! My 2009 Wheelchair Nationals Night Routine that I did was hilarious but the routine that I did at the BFE had a huge impact and many people saw my struggles over the years. It was an honor to be Bodybuilding.com's Feature Guest Poser of the Night.

[ Q ] When is your next contest?
dot

I'll be Guest Posing May 2nd at the KC Championships but I'm not sure when my next contest will be, it's complicated. I'm trying to get an IFBB Pro Show to add a Wheelchair Division in the fall, that way I will be granted my IFBB Pro Card as well as some of the other Wheelchair Bodybuilders that have earned their IFBB Pro Cards.

There is no IFBB Pro Wheelchair Bodybuilder because there is no Wheelchair Division at an IFBB Pro Show. The IFBB added a Wheelchair Division over in Bialystok, Poland on November 13th-16th and the IFBB Newsletter made it sound like the 1st IFBB Pro Show for Wheelchair Bodybuilders.

But it is not, both the IFBB President and NPC President have cleared that for me and it is only an amateur show. So if nothing comes of an IFBB Pro Show for Wheelchair Bodybuilders I will compete at the USA Wheelchair Championships just to bring awareness to the sport of Wheelchair Bodybuilding until the IFBB adds a Wheelchair Division in the Pro Ranks.

[ Q ] If you had a free pass to travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
dot

I would probably go on a cruise somewhere. I really don't have any specific places I would like to travel.

[ Q ] How is your website 'wheelchairbodybuilding.org' to help competitors with expenses coming along?
dot

It's coming along slow; I just have a lot of other things going on. Trying to find time, to figure out what to do and what to do next is always on my mind.

Patrick, Walker, Geno, and Ken have helped me network the sport like crazy, they are awesome reps for the sport but in order for the sport to grow more Wheelchair Bodybuilders need to compete.

[ Q ] You are such an amazing role model, are your family and friends into fitness as well?
dot

Thank you! Most of my friends are into fitness and one of my brothers lifts but nowhere close to how fitness consumes my life.

dot
[ Q ] You are a pioneer in wheelchair bodybuilding. What would you like to see happen in the future to develop it further?
dot

I would like to see the Wheelchair Division get added in the IFBB Pro Ranks and see the Wheelchair Division at the Arnold and Olympia Stage.

It cracks me up that the Arnold Sports Festival will not add a Wheelchair Bodybuilding to the festival but they have archery, cheerleading, table tennis. I've been trying to get the IFBB to add a Wheelchair Division since 2006 but the most common answer is that they "just don't have time", "maybe next year".

What's even funnier is that the IFBB didn't have time to add a Wheelchair Division but the NPC added a whole new category out of nowhere, Bikini Division, and at certain shows they are granting them IFBB Pro Cards and will make time to add the Division to IFBB Pro Shows.
