[ BodySpaceAdmin ] Where are you from, and how long have you been working out?
CoachA: I'm from New Jersey and I've been working out (on and off) since
high school, so that would be, uh, 1989. I've been more serious since about 4 years ago when I became a
[ BSA ] How did you first find out about BodySpace and Bodybuilding.com?
CoachA: I saw an advertisment in a
[ BSA ] Your profile mentions that you make wallpapers and do photo re-touching. Tell us about that.
CoachA: I'm an artist, and got my Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Communications Design where I learned how to do graphic design. I pursued that for a number of years before knowing that I wanted my own freedom on creating what I wanted, when I wanted. So now I do it on the side, and love working with
photography and other areas of design and art.
[ BSA ] Sounds fun! Who are you going to feature next in a wallpaper?
CoachA: Honestly, I haven't had any serious takers! I keep getting, "I'm toning up" or "I'll let you know..." I have to agree with most people that Adobe
Photoshop is an amazing program and the tools are endless.
[ BSA ] Your BodySpace profile says that you have a few bodybuilding accomplishments, but doesn't list them. What are they, for the record?
CoachA: Honestly, I have a few accomplishments but I didn't really care to list them on BodySpace at the time, but I'll tell you if you like. One of them is my B.F.A. I also have certifications in Personal Training with NASM, and I have certifications in
Massage Therapy. I also taught Tai-chi and
Taekwondo where I have a black belt. I've also won a few competitions in TKD.
| What Does NASM Stand For?
The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Visit their official website for more information.
[ BSA ] Your lifting stats indicate that you've increased your deadlift by nearly 100 pounds in just 5 months. Care to share some pointers on how to make such great gains?
CoachA: Yep. I put a lot of effort into it mentally. My first attempt wasn't a full-on attempt at 100%. So, yea, it sounds amazing but honestly it's really just getting my a$$ in gear and really pushing myself until it hurts and then I just keep lifting.
[ BSA ] When you see other people's body stats and lifting stats, do you think a lot of them are just not pushing themselves, as well?
CoachA: Stats can't always be the be-all, end-all. Numbers are always changing because our bodies and the way we attack our sessions change along with it. So one day it could be high and others not. In other words, I don't put too much into numbers because of those reasons.
[ BSA ] That makes sense, well said. So, what does your username "CoachA" mean? Are you the coach of a team?
CoachA: Nope, I'm just a coach to my clients because a good personal trainer is a good motivator, a good listener, a good program designer, and all-in-all a good coach. So I try to think of myself as a good coach for them.
[ BSA ] I've seen your photos, and with arms like that, there's no way that you can only bicep curl 94 lbs, LOL. How much can you really curl?
CoachA: Thank you. That's a tough question, actually... Are we talking about a curl at the
end of the workout, or at the
beginning when I'm fresh? And, how many times? (I rarely do 1 RM of anything.)
| What Does "1 RM" Mean?
One Rep Max. An "RM" specifies the maximum number of times (reps) you can lift a weight before hitting muscular failure. Click here for more information.
[ BSA ] Fresh (at the beginning), 1 RM.
CoachA: I don't know. I know I can do 40 lb
dumbbell alternating hammer curls about 20 on each side, and that's at the
end of a workout though - I never start with
biceps! Ha ha
[ BSA ] Who are some of your favorite friends here on BodySpace? And why?
CoachA: I love
everyone who lifts hard, is aspiring to be great, and is not afraid to kick it up a notch in the gym so that they reach those hard to reach
goals. That's respectable. Steroids aren't. But I've had good conversations with a few and they know who they are.
[ BSA ] What's your favorite part or feature of BodySpace?
CoachA: My favorite feature would be the
progress pics because I like to see progressions.
[ BSA ] Who is your favorite bodybuilder?
CoachA: My favorite bodybuilder would be a list of people like:
[ BSA ] If you were stranded on a deserted island with only one supplement, what would it be?
[ BSA ] Have you ever considered competing (in bodybuilding)?
CoachA: I considered bodybuilding but I really don't have the
dedication and commitment that these guys do. They put a ton of effort and energy into the lifestyle of bodybuilding. I just like to work out and sweat and challenge myself. The rewards are nice and yeah you look good but in the end I just wanna be ready for anything.
[ BSA ] Any final comments or anything else you want to tell other people on BodySpace or Bodybuilding.com?
CoachA: Just be careful with all the wannabe know-it-alls out there, in your gym, in
books, on TV, in magazines... don't believe everything you read. Learn from experience and do what works for you. Finally stand for something, because if you don't you'll fall for anything.
[ BSA ] Great, CoachA - thanks for the interview and your time. Best of luck on your goals!
CoachA: You got it, bud - now I gotta go be a coach! Thanks, TTYL.
