[ BodySpaceAdmin ] Where are you from, and how long have you been working out?

    FitNFiesty: I'm from Seymour, Indiana, USA (that's why I say 'home of John Mellencamp' on my profile), and I'd say I've been working out since 2003.


[ BSA ] How do you like training at home (as opposed to a gym)?

    FitNFiesty: I personally like training at home because it is me alone and I don't have to worry about someone talking and taking up my time in the gym. When I did attend, it seemed like people were a huge distraction! People would barely let me alone to work out. I mean, they were good people but it was difficult to concentrate...yanno? LOL


[ BSA ] Why Do You Like BodySpace So Much?

    FitNFiesty: I think BodySpace is a really fun way to meet other people like me that want the same things in life. I've met several friends and have even had the opportunity to meet fitness pros like Jamie Eason! I like to customize my information because it is a good form of expression. It's the fitness version of MySpace!!


[ BSA ] Your profile mentions that you would like to enter a Bikini Universe contest. Have you looked into competitions in your area or the 2007 contest schedule?

    FitNFiesty: I'm wanting to compete anywhere possible, honestly. My dad actually told me he'd take me to Florida because that seems to be where Bikini Universe is always held. It's a long trip away but we'd have fun regardless! I'm waiting for the upcoming B.U. schedule!

[ BSA ] How far off (training-wise) do you think you are from being competition-ready?

    FitNFiesty: Honestly, I think if I put my mind to it, I could be in perfect shape by this May.


[ BSA ] Wow, that's great! =)

    FitNFiesty: Yeah, I really feel that way. I'm putting my heart and soul into it! My body reacts very well to diet and exercise.

[ BSA ] What prompted you to enter the Indianapolis 500 Mini-Marathon?

    FitNFiesty: I personally feel that my body is capable of doing anything that I want it to! I did the mini-marathon to see how well I could do and I actually impressed myself by finishing in just 2 hours and 13 minutes! I set a goal.

    My goal wasn't necessarily getting a good time, though. My goal for the mini was to 'not stop or walk' - I had to run the entire thing, and sure as the world, I didn't stop!! I also love running, and it was fun training for it!

[ BSA ] Your progress pics are excellent, such a great 3-year progression shown. How much weight did you lose total?

    FitNFiesty: I started out at around 148 lbs., and now I remain in the 118 to 120 range. I'm really proud of those pics! So I'd say I lost around 28 to 30 lbs.


[ BSA ] Awesome transformation! How did you do it? (And what's with the blonde phase? LOL)

    FitNFiesty: Well, basically I started out with just exercise. Denise Austin has two shows every morning and I started doing those (free, so why not!) then I realized I loooved exercise more and more!

    I also realized that I had sort of a sporty-type of talent. I could do just about any of the moves! Videos were my first 'equipment' because I didn't really have the money to work out at a gym. The weight was coming off but I was like, man...I could lose a lot more if I just straightened out my diet!

    The best diet I think is South Beach because it worked wonders for me! I lost most of the inches in the first few months of that diet. I continued that diet with the exercise. Then I realized that joining the gym would give me more ways to tone up my body and more equipment to choose from.

    Plus, the videos were beginning to get too easy for me! So, I worked out at a local gym for a year and a half or so and decided that I would get my own home equipment! That's basically what I've been doing since.

    And the blonde hair was mainly because I felt as though I was becoming a 'new' person and I needed a change at that point in time... but I decided that it was way too high maintainence and that my natural auburn hair is exceptionally pretty! :-)

[ BSA ] Your blog mentions your hurt feet. Please explain the whole flip-flop incident for those who haven't yet read your blog.

    FitNFiesty: The foot injuries I believe are from running a lot. I have extremely flat feet and it seems to me that the more intense running I do makes for injuries.

    The flip flop incident was odd. We were at an amusement park and my foot was just feeling like it didn't want to operate normally anymore! It actually felt better to 'remove' the flip flops and walk on bare feet! So, when choosing footwear, be extremely picky!!

    I don't know if it was the footwear that caused the injury or just aggravated it because of my flat feet and running so much. I have had similar problems lately.


[ BSA ] Your blog also mentions bulimia - please tell us about your struggles with eating disorders.

    FitNFiesty: Well, honestly... I have had some trouble with bulimia, and it's not a fun thing to tell. It's basically because I wanted to look my best and sometimes when we look in the mirror we're not happy with what we see. I can honestly say that it's not a healthy thing to do and it won't necessarily make you look all that much better. Yeah, you'll lose weight, but you won't look healthy. I'm so against it.

[ BSA ] Naturally, but I'm glad you can talk about it openly. I know there are quite a few people even in the fitness industry that have had struggles with eating disorders.

    FitNFiesty: Yes, eating disorders (EDs) are awful and can totally take control of your life and priorities. Sadly enough, I had that happen to me but something happened that made me vow to never purge again - my nose started bleeding.

    Too scary for me! See, nothing really scary like that had ever happened before. It is an important issue because alot of girls don't know what they're getting themselves into when they 'begin' an eating disorder... as I didn't. Until the scariness happened, that is.


[ BSA ] Did you quit cold turkey or was there still a temptation to purge even after that scariness had happened?

    FitNFiesty: Well, see it had been going off and on, but I basically decided after the nose bleed incident that I would never do it again. I won't either, and haven't. And that wasn't that long ago either. It's weird because I did it straight through for, like, a year, then I wouldn't do it at all for several months and then I'd start it up again. But now after that, I'll never do it again. Not for me!

[ BSA ] Aside from the bikini contest, if you were to pursue competing, would you pick fitness or figure?

    FitNFiesty: I personally think that I would like trying both of those. I'm a really good athlete so I'd do well in either. I'd need a gymnastics coach and the like because I've never actually done gymnastics, but I always done tumbles as a kid and I can still do cartwheels and round offs!

    Figure would probably be what I tried out doing while training for Fitness. They both are appealing to me, however. I would basically just pick which one I felt the most comfortable with at first.


[ BSA ] Who is your favorite female competitor (either Fitness or Figure) of all time?

    FitNFiesty: Well, that is a hard one because I admire most of those girls! I would have to say three... Jamie Eason, Monica Brant, and Jenny Lynn! I have a hard time just picking one!


[ BSA ] If you were stranded on a deserted island with only one supplement, what would it be?

[ BSA ] How did you first hear about Bodybuilding.com and BodySpace?

    FitNFiesty: Well, I'm a reader of Oxygen Magazine. Being a fan of Monica Brant, I noticed an ad that she was on and it said 'Bodybuilding.com' and it said something about how she had articles on there. That perked my interest because I like hearing what she has to say. Then after I started enjoying the forums and articles, I noticed the BodySpace feature.

[ BSA ] Why the 'Gilmore Girls'? LOL

    FitNFiesty: Well, that show is a really good show. I was just talking to my Mom the other night about this very subject... 'why Gilmore Girls'? Well, I think it is because those girls on that show portray a realistic mother daughter lifestyle. I feel comfort in the fact that they mess up too.

    They get into some sticky situations and work their way out of them. It makes me realize that sometimes things just don't go the way we want them... Plus, there are some really hilarious situations in that show. It's written very well. Through the seven seaons of Gilmore Girls, none of the characters have been 'replaced' by random actors!


[ BSA ] Why do you like "High Intensity Interval Training" by Jeremy Lapro?

    FitNFiesty: I liked his HIIT article because it was the best one about it that I could find. I personally loved the program that it ran me through and I did it for a while!

    I take a break from HIIT after doing it so many weeks in a row because it is intense (hee hee!) In that article, it is explained very well.

    FitNFiesty: I just think that people that want to lose weight need to get 'serious' about it. If they give up on their healthy diet or exercise, then they weren't really worried about their physical situation in the first place.
