How Did You Get Started?
I got started 20 years ago when my boyfriend asked if I wanted to go to the gym with him. I laughed as I ate my Twinkie and said OK. Had nothing else to do. Day one I fell in love with lifting weights. I was able to keep both feet on the ground, had nothing to do with deep dark water, had nothing to do with speed. I didn't need much coordination. I was hooked. Then I picked up a womens bodybuilding magazine and saw huge muscles on women and saw it as art. I wanted to be a muscular canvas! Been on a mission ever since to get big.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
The best workout plan only began a couple of years ago when someone told me about Tim Gardner of Team Body*Tech. I went to him because I was having trouble putting on weight. He put me on a diet plan and workout consisting of natural/clean foods and alot of it. The workout consisted of mostly compound movements 5 days a week. Healthy supplements like Vit.C, calcium, BCAA's, enzymes, and multivitamins. I gained 10 lbs in one year. Our team has about 121 competitors (not all competing at the same time), it's usually around 20 or 30. We pose together, support each other at shows, he does our routines for us, our diets, basically does everything we need to get ready for a show. We even have a cafe inside our gym that can prepare the meals he has us on. So I owe any success I may have to him and the team. I also within the last few weeks have had the privilege of training with Mark Mueller (one of our trainers) and I've learned more in the last 2 weeks than the 20 years I've put in.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
The supplements that have helped me the most have come from Biochem. Our team has revcieved the privilege of being sponsored by Biochem. I'm recieving free protein powder that I've never had before and it tastes like I'm cheating it's so good. Another supplement that I like is Cytodyne's Z-Mass which helps me sleep harder so I can grow. Also, their Ligatend and Athletes Ultimate Pain Formula has helped me tremendously from a recent shoulder separation. Taking 3 weeks off from training and using these supplements has healed me to the point where I'm stronger than I was before the accident. I swear by these and never go off of them.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love bodybuilding because it has helped me believe in me. Asthetics is to me superficial and can change in an instant. I know now that I can challenge myself to do whatever it is I want to do.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
Last year I won the SouthernStates masters Championships overall lightweight. this year I plan on going back and doing the open. I want to be the first person to win a masters overall, then go in to win the open. Hopefully qualifying for the Nationals this year, then going to the Nationals next year. After that, turning pro and my ultimate dream is to get invited to the Ms. Olympia the following year or two.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Have the attitude that you are ultimatly in competition with yourself. If you don't weigh more the following year on stage, you aren't a true bodybuilder. Hence the word "bodybuilder". You won if you successfully weighed in heavier. Eat every 2-3 hours, train hard, and take your vitamins. This is not a sport for the weak-kneed. Also, to the veterans: be humble and kind to your fellow competitors. If they don't talk to you, they are probably nervous and scared. Remember your first show?
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
My favorite bodybuilder is Bev Francis. I love her accent, her witty sense of humor (i.e. Pumping Iron 2, the Women), her massive size and her love and appreciation for the sport of bodybuilding all these years.
