How Did You Get Started?
I started bodybuilding at age 12 because I was smaller than others my age and would get picked on very often. Plus my father had been a weightlifter and had a full set of weights in the basement and a collection of Ironman magazines that I would look through endlessly for inspiration.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Many years ago, I realized that training each body part one time per week was the way to go for reasons of recovery and that most people were grossly overtrained. I started using the "1 body part per day" routine in the mid-eighties and never ever changed it! It worked then and it works now.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
As far as nutrition is concerned, I use a very old school approach, but it works! I eat high protein, high carbs and almost non-existent fat. It's a 45-45-10 approach, which has served me well. I don't believe in the high fat diet, as I've seen it backfire far to many times. Of course, I eat every 2 hours ending up with about 7 meals for the day.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love bodybuilding because you get to exert control over your genetics and your body and this control will overflow into other areas of your life, making you successful at whatever it is to which you decide to apply these same principles. I have built a successful nutrition counseling business over the last 10 years using the lessons learned through bodybuilding. You can visit my website if you are interested in learning more about that.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I am currently getting ready for the N.P.C Nationals in Miami on Nov. 14th and 15th. It will be my first shot at N.P.C. national competition. My goal is to beat some of the best bodybuilders in the nation and make my mark in this sport that I have loved since the age of 12.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
The most valuable tip I could give any bodybuilder is to learn. Be a student of the sport. Thirst for information and apply it to yourself always being open minded to better ways of training and dieting and, equally as important... BE PATIENT! It took me 25 years to forge my physique, but it was worth it. Learn to enjoy the journey or you will never get to the destination, I assure you!
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
For obvious reasons, my favorite bodybuilder is "Governor Schwarzenegger"!
