Why I decided to transform

It all started in my bedroom when my friend took a picture of me and I looked fat. I looked like that for months prior to the photo but never had a problem with it. It's funny how suddenly your life can change.

The next day, I saw a picture of Greg Plitt on the cover of a fitness magazine. In that moment, I instantly remembered the way I looked in the photo my friend took and realized I wasn't living to my full potential.

I started my fitness journey immediately. At first, I cut the obvious bad foods out of my diet like pizza, cake, and doughnuts.

As I went along, I learned more and became a certified fitness trainer. Then I started training with fitness gurus and decided to become a physique competitor.

How I accomplished my goals

I'm focused on the present so I can stay on my A-game. I don't rely on feelings for motivation or anger to lift heavy. I find that being present is more reliable because I don't think as much. I observe myself doing the exercise, which is a great way to ignore the pain. To accomplish my overall fitness goal, I take it one day at a time because it's all anyone can do.

Sitting there thinking about how bad you look will only make you feel bad about it. I find quite often that my clients don't use their personal power, which is the ability to think about what you want, when you want it. If you get a bad thought right before you attempt a one-rep max on the deadlift, you're not going to get it up, because you're defeated.

When it comes to my goals, I deal with whatever is here in the present moment. I don't think about anything else. It may seem hard, but I recommend giving it a try.

Diet plan that guided my transformation

I'm a trainer and made my own plan in the beginning. Later on, I started training with gurus like Jim Quinn who brought me to another level. When I started, I needed to cut body fat, so I cut the carbs down to 0.7 grams and increased my protein to 1.5 g per pound of bodyweight. I'm still on that plan to cut but added cardio.

Jim stressed the importance of carb timing, so all of my carbs are counted and eaten according to the time of day. If I'm allowed 100 g of carbs per day, I'll eat 50 g pre-workout in morning and divide 50 more grams throughout the day.

What aspect challenged me the most

In the beginning, the diet was challenging. Before I decided to get ripped and huge, I ate doughnuts, Skittles, Snickers, and Twix. I did that for years and built horrible habits that took lots of time to break.

My future fitness plans

I plan to compete until I win the Physique Olympia. I want to compete in bodybuilding too, because I take pride in my legs. My suggestion for aspiring transformers is to get started now. No more what ifs and maybes. Just do it and figure it out along the way.
