Why I Decided to Transform

My weight gain rapidly increased in middle school when I started eating chocolate milkshakes and fries every day. As time went on, it got worse, but I had an excuse; throughout high school, I was an offensive lineman and the bigger I got the more it helped. I had no intention to lose weight and weighed 295 pounds as a senior.

I thought I was overweight, but my friends said I wore it well. After high school, I wanted to keep playing football and walked on at a division II school. I gained more weight during my freshman year and hit 315 pounds. Then the school's football team was cut. I wasn't a lineman anymore, didn't want to be big, and my fitness journey began.

I stumbled upon BodySpace and created a profile immediately. During the summer, my friends and I worked out on a regular basis and I saw results. I lost 70 pounds in the eight months, which was great, but it wasn't enough. I wanted to see more changes quicker.

My friend and I started Kris Gethin's 12-Week Hardcore Trainer on Bodybuilding.com on January 1, 2012. I saw huge progress in three months and dropped another 56 pounds. It completely changed my life. It gave me more confidence during the summer. I wasn't scared or embarrassed to take my shirt off. My confidence helped tremendously when it came to meeting new people in college. I'm happy I did it with a great friend to push me through hard times.

How I Accomplished My Goals

I accomplished my goals through trial and error. I always lifted, but never switched up my rep ranges. I didn't like cardio in the beginning, but learned to accept it.

I cut my food intake, but I didn't count calories. I saw progress by eating less food and exercising more. I did this for eight months before starting Kris Gethin's program.

On Gethin's program, I changed my diet completely and did cardio twice per day. There were days I felt like quitting, but two things got me through. First, I envisioned what I wanted to look like at the end of the program. Secondly, my friend did the program alongside me and we wouldn't let each other quit no matter how hard it got.

I found most of my motivation from Bodybuilding.com. I looked at the transformations and knew I could do it if they did. I also got motivation from Gethin's program.

His daily videos helped keep me stay on track. I watched every video three times, the night before, the morning of, and before the workout. He explains everything well and I never had questions about the exercises. I learned something new every day, which motivated me to stay on track and see it through to the end.

What Aspect Challenged Me the Most

The hardest part was the diet. Restricting my calories and cutting out sugar was really hard. During the first month, I had cravings for anything and everything. Whenever I had a craving, I drank a glass of water and got over it. The water filled me up so I didn't feel like I could eat anything even if I wanted to.

My Future Fitness Plans

I'm not stopping anytime soon, I plan to do more 12-week programs to have the best body possible. I don't have any plans to compete, but I would like to become a trainer. I help my friends and family with their fitness needs and answer questions whenever I can to keep them motivated.

Suggestions for Aspiring Transformers

My suggestion for anyone trying to transform is to find a plan, jump into it, and start a schedule. The hardest part is the start. When you know what to do, it becomes easy.

A schedule makes your actions habits, which changes your lifestyle. This is the key to lasting results. Don't just diet, make good eating habits a way of life.

For those in the middle of a transformation, keep going strong. Before you know it, it will be over and you will see results. When the going gets tough, think about today. If you get a bad craving, make your next meal how it should be and the craving will pass. Good luck to all transformers.

How Bodybuilding.com Helped Me Reach My Goals

Bodybuilding.com helped me reach my goals in many ways. I used BodySpace to track my results and watch my progress for motivation to keep going. When this wasn't enough, I looked at the Motivation tab and read about others who transformed. I wanted it badly, and when I saw them I knew I could finish. The trainers also helped, specifically Kris Gethin's 12-Week Hardcore Trainer. It made everything simple and easy to follow.

Thanks

I want to thank Kris Gethin for his daily trainer. It helped so much. I also want to thank Nick who did the program by my side and never let me quit when the going got tough. Finally, I want to thank my family for being behind me every step of the way.
