BodyGroup Of The Month
With the obvious benefits that come from being in a group of like minded people, Bodybuilding.com has decided to highlight some of the best BodyGroups. Once a month we will give a salute to a BodyGroup that displays the benefits of people coming together with similar goals. Our BodyGroup Of The Month features an ever growing group of highly motivated people, 40 Plus'ers!
We're a group of 40+ year old members who stick together, help each other out and have fun doing it.
"Every member of this group committed to..." Life is a CHALLENGE...so you'll always find one going on here! Brooke is running this one and doing a great job with it! She's awesome.
[ Q ] What is your BodyGroup about and who are the members?
The group is all about being over 40 and staying fit. Our members are 40 and older who want to join a support group to stay focused and motivated. Everyone here is extremely helpful and positive.
[ Q ] Why did the founder start up the group?
I founded the group because I wanted to create a fun environment where no matter what shape you are in, or how old you are, you'll would feel comfortable asking questions and participating in the challenges we run.
[ Q ] What have your results been with starting the group?
For me it really helps to keep me on track with my workouts and maintain a healthy lifestyle. A little competition is always good.
[ Q ] How do your members use the BodyGroup feature?
It's a great way to communicate and by using the BodyGroup Discussion Threads it's a great way to keep everyone informed and involved.
[ Q ] Who are some of your notable members?
There are so many great contributors, this is a tough one. Let's see...well I'll go back to when the group was first created. I'll say it would have to be Soleuvanathelete (she's the best!), HermTheWorm (our logo creator), Mark42, Beachboy47 and Avatarfx. They all have been major contributors and keep the group active. They are always willing to help everyone and answer any question. Stats...well they are all in awesome shape and some with sights on competition.

[ Q ] How would you explain the attitude needed in your group, to a new member?
First and foremost we want to make being fit and staying fit fun. Being over forty, our lives are pretty hectic trying to juggle work, family and of course the gym. So having a place to go and mingle, ask a few questions and have some fun is a great outlet.
[ Q ] In what way has motivating other BodySpace users, given you the ability to push yourself to new levels?
I think in our group we call it "Friendly Competition". We have had a few competitions within our group which has help to us to push each other.
[ Q ] What would you tell someone who is contemplating making a commitment to joining your group, to motivate them make the commitment?
Take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself...is this where I thought I would be at this point in my life. If there are things you don't like about yourself, then change them. Being able to talk and interact with others looking to transform their lives is a very powerful tool.
[ Q ] How do you think the group mentality applies to your personal life and how has it helped?
I believe it has made me a better person. Physically I'm in the best shape of my life. With that brings a positive attitude that extends way beyond the gym. Being happy with yourself will only create a better work and home environment.
[ Q ] Why join your group as opposed to other transformation groups?
Because we are the best. We really do believe that. We have a bunch of members say that this is the best group on the site. Its real people with real lives all sharing the same goal.
[ Q ] How do you feel, is the best way to motivate others within the confines of the group page?
I think our competitions have probably been the best motivator. Posting before and after pictures along with setting goals has been a great tool for us. Everyone participating knows that after 8, 10 or 12 weeks of hard work they'll see change.
The Power Of Groups
The cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever does." So what's the secret? Why are groups so powerful? The answer lies in their social dynamic!
- Group members often have the same goals.
- They motivate one another.
- They learn from each other.
- They become a family that provides support when times are tough and entertainment when things are good!

Having the right social network can define success in any endeavor that you pursue. After all, a man is judged by the company he keeps. Someone who shares your goals can help you overcome any adversity.
Finding that person, however, can be just as difficult. A BodyGroup can connect you with people who can mentor you, challenge you, and exchange ideas that you might not have come across otherwise.
You, in turn, can help others on the same path. By acting as both student and teacher, keeping an open mind to new ideas and different methods, you may be the catalyst to the success of your group. Helping someone else with their goals can be very rewarding, and oftentimes, we benefit just as much by helping out.
BodyGroups are a great way to ask questions, learn, and make progress in a fun and positive environment! No matter what goals you have in mind, don't do it all alone-join a BodyGroup and find all the support you need, any time, all the time.
Joining a group is quick and easy! Find a group that matches up with what you want to do, check them out, and join! Then it's just up to you to contribute and communicate.
Start Your Own Group:
What if the group I am looking for doesn't exist? Maybe you can't find the group you were looking for. That's ok, because you can start your own group, and then invite others to join you! You can even start and be a member of multiple BodyGroups. If having one circle of friends is good, then more is better!
