How Did I Lose 25 Pounds In Only 8 Weeks? With BodySpace!

Bill Belfert is here to share his story of how he lost 25 pounds in 8 weeks with the help of the greatest fitness networking site on the web: BodySpace!

I dropped Richard and Ryan a note the other day telling them how awesome BodySpace, BodyBlogs, and the Forums are - well come to think of it - how awesome the whole Bodybuilding.com community really is!

Listen, I've been at this iron game for a long time now. I started in the summer before my freshman year in high school; what was I, maybe 15-years old. I'm 42 now - Wow! I still can't believe I'm 42. I feel 18-years old (my wife says I'm her 4th child), but I gotta tell ya, with my major injuries my body feels more like 82!

So there I was back on March 1, 2007, feeling sorry for myself at a big fat whopping 225 pounds at 22% body fat with my right quad-tendon and knee in constant pain.

Some of the guys at work said they were going to have a contest among themselves to lose weight and get in shape. I said, "Sure, I'll do it." I set my sights to lose 16 pounds in 8 weeks.

So then, in the back of my head I remembered getting an email from Bodybuilding.com about how they were going to start this BodySpace thing. Back in 2004, Bodybuilding.com did a Kick Ass Job on two articles I wrote. Awesome graphics, layout, publicity, the whole 9 yards! So I told myself I'd better check it out.

Now, mind you I haven't been in-shape since my first major injury back in December 2003. A little contest among co-workers wasn't going to cut it. Out of the 10 guys who said they were gonna do it, I was the only one left standing! Sad but true. I would say 9 out of every 10 people fail at this thing called Fitness. And look, that's exactly how it worked out at work!

Man, This whole BodySpace thing blew me away. I really didn't know if I was ready to put myself out there like that. You know? Post my "fat slob" pictures? I was freaking scared to let everyone see me in that bad state.

Post My "Fat Slob" Pictures?

But I said to myself this is the only way that I'm going to get back in shape and make it stick once and for all! I was doing this for me and me only. I wasn't doing some bodybuilding contest or trying to win some prizes with a Before and After contest.

I wasn't trying to land a supplement sponsor or get in a magazine or TV commercial this time. Damn, I'm 42 years old now with pain every freaking day in my right knee and Quad-Tendon. On a scale from 1 to 10 I was at about a level 7 every day.

If I lost some fat maybe, just maybe, I could get rid of some pain in my life! So after I surfed around at BodySpace, I decided for better or worse I was gonna put myself out there in front of over 50,000 Active BodySpace Members! (At the time - now there's over 60,000.) YIKES!

I posted a couple of pictures from my second major Quad-Tendon surgery from February 2004. I made one of those my avatar and the rest I put in the Progress Picture Section. I also took that painstaking present day big fat slob picture on March 7, 2007. Damn, I was fat!

In the back of my mind I was thinking that I not only wanted to post pictures of my comeback but also shoot some videos. I felt maybe this way I would be able to connect with people more if they see an actual person moving and speaking. Not just pictures.

Getting Support On BodySpace Is Easy.

BodySpace makes it soooo easy. Back when I was running my old website I would literally bang my head against the wall trying to post pictures just the way I wanted them to be layed out and the overall look and feel of the site. I tried to set up blogs and forums and visitor comments. Now mind you this was almost 5 years ago but I wasted a lot of precious time.

And try to get some videos up there? Forget about it!

Man, with BodySpace the layout is just perfect. All you have to do is upload some pictures, fill out some Personal Info And Background, and voila!, you're off and running ... I was really interested in uploading YouTube videos. That was a breeze, as well.

The best part of all this, and what made the biggest difference for me this time around is the interaction between everyone here at the whole BodyBuilding.com Community! Let me explain ...

Like I said before, I posted my BodySpace on March 1, 2007. Then it happened:

The support and feedback
from other BodySpace members!!

In my profile I said that I was going to post weekly videos of all my workouts. If I missed posting a video one week my friend Shane_206 would sure let me know about it. So I knew I couldn't continue messing up like that or I'd hear about it for sure. That's the best part. My new friends at BodySpace keep me accountable!

Everyone here supports your goals and picks you up if you happen to have a bad workout, cheat on your proper nutrition, or just have bad day at work, or a bad day at home with the family.

Friends

You make real friends here at BodySpace? I love it! I've really developed good relationships with Dawn Melanie, Gina (bellaone1965), and Shane206.

Dawn Melanie:

What can you say about Dawn Melanie? Look at her goal:

"Long Term - Attain IFBB Pro Figure Status ... while managing Multiple Sclerosis, rehabbing my "new" right ACL and left 'Bunionectomied' toe (both Fall '06 surgeries). Whew!"

Man, like attaining IFBB Pro Figure Status isn't hard enough! I never hear her complain about her MS and her injuries. She is one of the classiest and intelligent people I have ever met. Not to mention she is the funniest person I have ever met. She definitely needs to do a stand-up routine on open mic night at a comedy club or something.

She is one of the most Active BodySpace Members here. Honestly I don't know how she does it! She keeps telling me it's magic. God bless her 'cause it seems more like a Miracle to me! I have a hard enough time keeping up with 3-to-4 friends here at BodySpace! She's Da Bomb! She is BodySpace!

Gina (bellaone1965):

She's my buddy! We're fellow NorthEasterners, maybe that's why we get along so well. Well maybe it has something to do with my disdain for cardio and her love for cardio. I have this thing. I will not do cardio for more than 18 minutes, I freaking hate it that much. I even posted a few videos about it. And when I reach my goal of 185 pounds I will not do cardio anymore! I will control my body with proper nutrition!

Anyway, now when Gina does her cardio she starts cracking up at the 18-minute mark because she's thinking about me! And when I'm at any point in my cardio I think about her! We both laugh our @sses off! And you know what? It makes it that much easier to get through our cardio! We tease each other. She's awesome!

I Hate Cardio... 18 Minutes And That's It!

Shane_206:

We both have similar styles of weight training and use the same brand of supplements. He uses Max-OT weight training and I use my Bare Minimum Training. Both are forms of HIT Training. We both dig AST supplements! So we hit it off right off the bat.

View AST Products Sorted By Top Sellers Here.

He does Electronics/Marine Seismic Oil Exploration. So a lot of his workouts are onboard ship / below deck. That's got to be tough. But yet he's got some strong lifts and a strong physique.

He makes sure I keep up to date with my weekly videos. He also pushes me to lift heavier and heavier weights.

Shane is my 100% all natural Grade "A" Montana Beef Friend.

Other Friends:

I'm friends with Chris (mrdead), and LiciKing as well. Chris and I will always check up on each other to see how our trainings coming.

LiciKing, she's the reason I started talking in my videos. We check up on each other from time to time.

Next Goal

My next goal is to get down to single digits in bodyfat. With my new friends here keeping me accountable I will not fail!
