Promoted To Director, AMI Events

Will oversee the planning of 40th anniversary Mr. Olympia event October 13-16 at Las Vegas' Orleans Arena

(New York, NY, 8/4/05) David Pecker, Chairman and CEO of American Media, today announced that Robin Chang has been promoted to Director, AMI Events.

Amongst his first activities will be producing the 2005 Mr. Olympia, the annual bodybuilding competition that is widely recognized as the "Super Bowl" of bodybuilding. The 2005 competition, which will mark the 40th anniversary of the event, will take place October 13-16 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Orleans Arena.

Chang, the producer of the 2004 Mr. Olympia, which was the highest grossing year in the history of the event, brings over ten years of experience in producing high profile bodybuilding events and television programs for the sport. He produced ESPN's Musclemania World Championship for six years, ESPN's Fitness America Pageant for six years, five years as producer of ESPN's Fitness Universe Pageant and the NPC USA Championships, NPC National Championships, NPC California Championships.

Chang has also produced programs on an international level including the ESPN Musclemania & Fitness Italy Pageant, the ESPN Musclemania & Fitness Europe Pageant and Star Sport's Musclemania Japan competition.

"Without question, Robin is the best producer of bodybuilding events in the business and we're thrilled to name him Director of our Mr. Olympia property. I had the pleasure of working with him on the event last year, the most successful in the history of the Mr. Olympia's, and I know that under his guidance, this year's Mr. Olympia competition will set a new standard within the industry and the fans as we move to our new venue at the Orleans Arena," said Pecker.

2005 Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend will take place in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena and Las Vegas Convention Center the weekend of October 13-16. The 2005 Olympia Weekend marks the 40th anniversary of this prestigious event which will crown the world's best men and women as they compete in the ultimate bodybuilding and fitness competitions.

Michael Berg
Named Executive Editor American Media's Flex Magazine

(New York, NY, 8/4/05) David Pecker, Chairman and CEO of American Media today announced that Michael Berg has been named as Executive Editor of Flex Magazine. He will report to Flex Editor in Chief Peter McGough.

Berg's appointment marks a return to the AMI family, having spent five years as Deputy Editor of Muscle & Fitness magazine. While at Muscle & Fitness, Berg was involved in all areas of the editorial process including overseeing the magazine's editorial staff, assisting in the planning of each issue and developing strong relationships with the major athletes and decision makers in the sport of bodybuilding.

"I look forward to having Mike join me at Flex," said Peter McGough, Flex's Editor in Chief. "I know his knowledge of the sport as well as experience as an editor will be invaluable to me as we grow the magazine's readership."

Promoted To Muscle & Fitness Editor In Chief

(New York, NY, 8/4/05) David Pecker, Chairman and CEO of American Media today announced that he is promoting Jeff O'Connell to Editor in Chief for AMI's Muscle & Fitness magazine. The promotion is effective immediately.

One of the most prolific and widely respected writers about the sport of bodybuilding, O'Connell brings over a decade of experience in writing about the industry. His work is recognized for expanding the boundaries of health and fitness journalism, sidestepping formula reporting to devise groundbreaking story angles. O'Connell has consistently produced high quality, well-researched articles that capture the attention of this highly complex and diverse audience and readership.

Throughout his career, O'Connell has delivered an extraordinary volume and breadth of articles on subjects ranging from workouts, health, nutrition, sports psychology and celebrity profiles including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Montel Williams, Antonio Sabato, Jr., Sable, India Aire and LL Cool J among others.

He is an expert in packaging content that appeals to bodybuilding enthusiasts and the mass market alike. He has been recognized for excellence within the bodybuilding media for his profile writing, which has been cited in the Best American Sports Writing anthology. O'Connell's "how-to" writing has been nominated for a Maggie Award, the West Coast's publishing industry's equivalent of the Oscars.

Additionally, his most recent fitness book, "The Jump Off; 60 Days to a Hip-Hop Hard Body," co-authored by Marc Jenkins, P. Diddy's trainer and published by HarperCollins, reached the bestseller list.

"As a ten year veteran of the bodybuilding industry, Jeff has a unique understanding of the editorial product and how it relates to the readers. He has always come up with creative concepts which have made his articles must reads within the industry. Jeff's writing and editorial judgment reflects his innate knowledge of the sport and has made a strong contribution to the success of Muscle & Fitness. I think his promotion to Editor in Chief is a great opportunity for both he and AMI to maintain our leadership in the sport," said Pecker.

Named Chairman Sports & Fitness Supplement Association

(New York, NY, 8/4/05) Peter McGough, Editor in Chief of Flex Magazine, has been named the Chairman of the Sports & Fitness Supplement Association (SFSA). The announcement was made by David Pecker, Chairman and CEO of American Media, a founding member of the organization.

The SFSA is a strategic alliance of manufacturers, marketers, distributors and media working to preserve consumer access to the benefits of sports and fitness nutritional supplements. The alliance mobilizes grassroots networks, lobbying efforts, and targeted communications to defend the sports supplement & nutrition industry from legislative threats and unfair regulation.
