 2010 Olympia Women's Finals Review
What an evening it has been! The Orleans Arena was full of excitement and anticipation. The crowd was abundant, enthusiastic and not afraid to let their voices be heard. It's actually very rare to see a crowd like this for the Friday night shows, but it's good to see the events picking up steam. Despite the excitement and night of firsts (which we'll get to in a second), it was also a night of "expecteds". By that, we mean a lot of the incumbents treated us to a repeat performance of awesomeness; like Iris Kyle and Adela Garcia continuing their reigns as Ms. Olympia and Ms. Fitness Olympia, respectively. We also witness Olympia history on two counts - The first being the first ever Olympia Bikini winner Sonia Gonzalez taking her crown, and the second is Adela Garcia winning her 5th title as Ms. Fitness Olympia, which means she bested Susan Currey to become the winningest Ms Fitness Olympia.
 Fitness
We started the evening out with the women' fitness routine, which were, for the most part flawless. Granted, some were more memorable than others, like Oksana Grishina, Bethany Wagner and Adela Garcia's. Tanji Johnson's stood out thanks to its creativity, uniqueness and overall "street" feel. Myriam Capes made creative use of her chair prop (that girl has strength!), and Trish Warren brought the best Trish Warren we've seen to date. If she continues to improve at this exceptional rate, there's no doubt she'll be a lock in for #1 the second Adela isn't 100%. Ms. Garcia needs to watch her back!
Myriam Capes - Cabaret style routine. Amazing! And her physique has definitely tightened up! Her hams and gams were incredible. She missed a few steps but totally rocked the rest of her routine.
Regiane Da Silva - Came out of the gate with high energy. The routine itself was good, but slightly choppy. She could have been a little smoother.
Nicole Duncan - Had a routine that made you say "wow" from the get go. The routine was tight, minus a couple steps at the beginning. Her athleticism is great! And her energy is contagious!
Tina Durkin - Solid hip hop routine. The choreography was pretty good, though her transitions weren't as smooth as the others.
Mia Finnegan - Incredible! She honestly hasn't lost a step in 15 years, as funny as that sounds. Abba inspired routine. She's a little slow with transitions, but still energetic and spunky! You can tell she's having fun!
Adela Garcia - James Bond theme. She's got sass and spunk. Totally explosive routine. Her music and moves are in sync - she's a force to be reckoned with.
Oksana Grishina - Same routine as the Arnold. Never the less, it was passionate, strong and incredible. She throws her whole body and soul into it. So graceful and elegant.
Tanji Johnson - Runner up last year. One handed clapping pushups to start - what more can I say? STOMP inspired routine. Full of energy! Great choreography too!
Shannon Meteraud - Transformers theme. Great costume. Missed a few steps. Energy was good though but could've been a little higher.
Yenny Polanco - Skipping rope prop was a great call. Brought down the house! She didn't miss a beat... Except for walking off the stage in the middle of her routine?
Camala Rodriguez - Started off slow, but picked up. Missed some steps, but didn't freak out over it. The routine didn't flow that well.
Kizzy Vaines - Basketball prop. Just when I thought her routine was great, but not amazing, she starts spinning on her head with her feet on the ground and finished very strong!
Bethany Wagner - gymnast routine. Creative routine with great energy and smooth transitions. It was definitely well choreographed.
Trish Warren - Matrix theme. Very cool! Explosive and energetic. Hard rock music to compliment the moves. She was working it and has improved tremendously in the last few years!
First call out: Myriam, Regiane, Tina, Oksana, Adela, Tanji, Bethany
Second call out: Trish, Nicole, Mia, Sharon, Yenny, Camala, Kizzy
Ms. Fitness Olympia:
6. Bethany Wagner
5. Oksana Grashina

 Bikini
As an inaugural show, it will probably take some time before both the judges and the audiences fully grasp what exactly the contestants should look like. The criteria will probably still be up in the air for a while. In the meantime, these girls can certainly work it! Their confidence, poise, stance, and @sses make sure they get noticed. In another vein, it was interesting to see Cheryln Roy and Jessica Putnam, former Figure girls, on there (and looking good), as Bikini girls.
Unfortunately, the judges didn't see it like Izzie and I. The favorites going in were Monique, Amanda and Tianna. However, the favorites coming out were Amanda, Sonia, Ali, Jamie, Nicole (who is only 18) and Natalia. We look forward to seeing it grow and evolve just as figure and fitness have over the years.
Dina Al-Sabah - Bubbly, glutes could be tighter.
Jaime Baird - Workin the stage! Looks like she sleeps in the heels, she's just so comfortable out there.
Bianca Binno - Awesome poise and confidence.
Vanessa Campbell - Amazing curves!
Melissa Coles - Improved her color from this morning, and looks much better.
Dianna Dahlgren - Nice smile, great hip swing.
Diana Fields - Really knows how to milk the Barbie look! It suits her.
Jessica Jessie - Surprisingly muscular, but it works!
Amanda Latona - "Hometown hero", crowd favorite! Has nice biceps and shoulder.
Anca Marcus - Works the stage with confidence. Could have been leaner
Nathalia Melo - Wasp waist. Crazy lean!
Christy Merritt - Lean legs. I wonder if this will help or hurt her...
Monique Minton - Another favorite going into the show. Looked good!
Shelsea Montes - Really cute, and nice abs! Great curves!
Brooke Mora - Another girl with great abs, and tall, which works to her advantage.
Khanh Nguyen - Looks good, but her presentation could've been better.
Natalie Pennington - Great walk! Overall good package!
Jessica Putnam - Looks tighter than most, probably left over from her figure days.
Ali Rosen - Great presentation.
Sherlyn Roy - More built than the other girls, but it looks good on her! We'll see if the judges like it.
Tianna Ta - Could be tighter from behind, but she has a crazy 4" waist (ok, so not REALLY 4", but close…)
Noemi Olah - Great presentation, but she might've come in TOO lean (ribs showing)
First call out: Jaime, Natalia M, Sonia, Nicole, Ali, Amanda
Second call out: Dina, Diana D. Diana F., Monique, Chelsea, Natalia P.
Third call out: Oleh, Jessica, Sherlyn, Anca, Christy
Fourth Call out: Tianna, Khanh, Brooke, Bianca, Vanessa, Melissa
Ms. Bikini Olympia:
6. Ali Rosen
5. Amanda Latona
4. Jaime Baird
3. Nicole Nagrani
2. Natalia Melo

 Women's Bodybuilding
The first thing that comes to mind is "Holy Crap! Iris Kyle is unbeatable!" Not to knock the other competitors, but her size, conditioning, muscle bellies and symmetry are untouchable. This is the best we've seen Yaxeni and Debi, and even THEY couldn't beat the reigning champ. Two competitors popped their Olympia cherry, and debut in the Top 6 (which is rare to do on a first outing): Heather Foster and Sheila Bleck. If Heather can nail her conditioning, then she's got nowhere to go but up.
This is also the first time we've seen so many women with striated glutes onstage. The 20th century women are setting a new standard for what women of this caliber need to bring to the stage in order to be competitive. It WILL be the minimum requirement in a matter of years. But at the end of the day, Queen Kyle brought home the hardware, yet again.
Sheila Bleck - Legs are the first thing you notice. Crazy condition. Surprised us with an athletic, well choreographed routine. Glutes were holding some water.
Helen Bouchard - Held her conditioning from this morning, very impressive. Dramatic routine, very traditional (posed, transitioned, posed). Most incredible vascularity.
Brigita Brezovac - Has won the only 2 shows she's ever competed in. But she doesn't look as good as she did in Tampa. Has an impressive physique, especially with the most muscular shot (which girls don't usually do).
Dayana Cadeau - 11th time on stage. Great physique and structure, but she's not lean enough, and it might hurt her. Also looks like she's holding some water in her back. She's gorgeous though with beautiful eyes.
Tina Chandler - One of the smaller girls. Fun, spunky routine. She could definitely be leaner, but not if it means sacrificing more size.
Heather Foster - Definitely the best routine thus far. She has fun with it! And had the physique to compliment it. She has great size. Glutes could be leaner.
Iris Kyle - Hard. Dry. Glutes. Conditioned. Symmetrical. Balanced. Thick. Dense. Glutes. Proportionate. Perfection. There's a reason this girl is the reigning champ.
Debi Laszewski - Full muscle bellies. Dry and hard. Glutes are in. Waist is a little thick. Definitely gonna place top 5.
Cathy LeFrancois - Amazing condition, but that's never her problem. With Cathy, it just depends on whether SHE is what the judges are looking for on any given night, because she's always on. Her waist is a little thick though.
Zoa Linsey - Thick! Has the size for sure. She looked better this morning. Great vascularity. Well balanced physique. She is still lean, but a little flat.
Yaxeni Oriquen-Garcia - She has glutes!! Thick and dense all over! Crazy how much muscle this girl packs in, especially in her back! Definite competition for Iris!
Ms. Olympia:
6. Heather Foster
5. Dayana Cadeau
4. Sheila Bleck
3. Debbie Laszweski
2. Yaxenia Oriquen Garcia
1. Iris Kyle
