Get Brian Bullman's top 3 picks to win the 2010 New York Pro competition, the East Coast's biggest festival of bodybuilding and fitness, with no fewer than 52 of the IFBB elite taking center stage at the Tribecca Performing Arts Theatre!

Article Summary:
  • Kevin English's muscle will be too much for this current lineup to beat.
  • There's a rumor that Toney Freeman and Gustavo Baddell also plan on competing.
  • Check out my predictions for the 2010 New York pro below.

New York, New York - so good they named it twice, much like the professional bodybuilding contest that has graced the city for almost three decades. New York has been the traditional home of professional bodybuilding's 3rd longest running show, once known as 'Night of Champions' a stage which has been graced by IFBB legends such as Gary Strydom, Shawn Ray, Jay Cutler, Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates to name but a few.

However, since the vacation from the IFBB of Wayne Demelia, the Night of Champions was to be no more. But New York was to remain the big apple of the IFBB leagues eye, as Steve Weinberger kept the show alive albeit with its new title, The New York Pro.

This weekend the IFBB will migrate to NYC for the east coast's biggest festival of bodybuilding and fitness, with no fewer than 52 of the IFBB elite taking center stage at the Tribecca Performing Arts Theatre.

At the time of writing this article there are 11 athletes in the men's open division and 10 athletes in the 202 division, not the overly massive lineups we are used to here in NYC but they are some of the finest athletes competing on the IFBB Pro scene.

  1. John Arendsz - Aruba
  2. Jason Arntz - USA
  3. Eric Castagnet - France
  4. Kevin English - USA
  5. Anthony Finochario - USA
  6. Milton Holloway Jr. - USA
  7. Sean-Paul Jenkins - USA
  8. Emro Karaadjuzovic - Montenegro
  9. Jose Raymond - USA
  10. Mike Sheridan - UK
  11. Vincent Wawryk - Canada

There are some great names in this lineup and I am sure that more will be added before contest time, but just going on the official entries thus far, the front runners are looking like IFBB veteran Jason Arntz, he has competed here every time since the induction of the 202 division in 2008, and the east coast native is sure to be there for the posedown.

Kevin English, the only man to win this contest, he won in both 2008 and 2009, and also the current 202 Olympia Champion is surely the man to beat, after all, this is his home turf, and as always will be bringing his A game.

Coming in all the way from across the Atlantic is the UK's Mike Sheridan; this man is a mountain of muscle and is always sliced and diced. I think he will be going back to the UK with an invite to the 202 Olympia showdown in his pocket this weekend.

The top three how I see it, now before you all start sending me emails after the show telling me how wrong I was, there is still time for more entries and also all these athletes have proven themselves in order to become IFBB Professionals. So without rambling on, my top three are... trumpets please.

1st Place: Kevin English

His mature muscle will be too much for this lineup and most athletes will be hard pressed to beat should he turn up in top shape, which he always does. This is why he is reining 202 Olympia Champion.

2nd Place: Mike Sheridan

The Englishman is just a mountain of muscle and he is known for coming in seriously shredded. I feel that should he step onstage in NYC in his peak shape then he is a sure thing for second place.

3rd Place: Jose Raymond

This is going to be a tough battle between Jason Arntz and Jose Raymond. Jose is much thicker and more balanced than Jason, but Jose has struggled with conditioning since turning pro. Jason on the other hand lacks the thickness but brings some great conditioning to the stage. But I am going to go out on a limb and go with Jose Raymond for 3rd place.

  1. Marius Dohne - South Africa
  2. Erik Fankhouser - USA
  3. Jeff Long - USA
  4. Cesar Mendible - USA
  5. Evgeny Mishin - Russia
  6. Mike Van Wyck - Canada
  7. Roelly Winklaar - Holland
  8. Dennis Wolf - Germany
  9. Daniele Seccarecci - Italy
  10. Sergey Shelestov - Russia
  11. Hidetada Yamagishi - Japan

Not a huge lineup at the time of writing this article, but I hear through the grapevine that Toney Freeman and Gustavo Baddell were going to throw their hat into the mix also, but I guess we will just have to wait and see. Of course should these IFBB superstars decide to enter the placings will most definitely change for the top five, but they are not yet on the official list of entries so they are not going to be considered for my predictions.

Athletes to look out for in NYC are of course Roelly Winklaar who has caused a bit of a stir in his rookie year as a pro, big, conditioned and very well balanced symmetrical physique, a lethal combination in any lineup.

Dennis Wolf, this man has a couple of IFBB Pro titles to his credit and has been dubbed a future Mr. Olympia by many an pro bodybuilding pundit, but he failed to impress the judges at the Olympia and found himself falling from the posedown in 2007 and 2008 to out of the top 15 in 2009.

He is surely going to be hungry like the wolf this weekend. Russia's Sergey Shelestrov is not one to be over looked, this guy is HUGE, and has great balance and symmetry.

When he nails his conditioning you better watch out, he proved this at the 2009 Arnold, when he took the stage by storm and narrowly missed out on a place in the posedown.

I almost forgot to mention, well I didn't really I just wanted to save him until last, Japans favorite professional bodybuilder Hidetada Yamagishi has had a great 2010 season thus far and is fresh off his first IFBB victory. He has been here in NYC several times before and he will be gunning for top spot.

1st Place: Dennis Wolf

The man almost took the Olympia title in 2007 and still posses the ability to do it in the future. I feel he will be coming to NYC with something to prove after his poor performance in Vegas September last. Should he step onstage the bodybuilder we all know he can be, it will be his contest to lose.

2nd Place: Roelly Winklaar

To say this guy is big is an understatement. He has everything you want to see in a professional bodybuilder, size, and balance. If he steps on stage in shape, he will be taking an invite to the Olympia home with him.

3rd Place: Hidetada Yamagishi

As balanced and conditioned a physique as he has, I feel that he going to be outmuscled here in NYC and should everyone bring their A game, he will do well to place 3rd.

Conclusion

So there you have it, my prediction for the 2010 IFBB Pro. Will I be wrong? I think not. But then again those guys waiting until the last minute to enter might throw a wrench in the works and mess up my predictions. That's one problem I could live with. See you all in New York, the city that never sleeps.
