What an amazing event!
The contestants arrived in LA (All-Expense Paid Trip) on Tuesday and checked in at the beautiful downtown Westin Bonaventure (Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie, True Lies was filmed here!). Tuesday and Wednesday were spent at the iconic Ironman Magazine Studios (ALL the big names have shot here) where the contestants worked the camera for famed photographer Mike Neveux. The first group to shoot was comprised of Ben, Matt, James, Jaquelyn and Alexandra.
All three guys on the shoot instantly bonded and shared stories of their wives and families. They weren't afraid to jump right in and help each other apply fake tanner and prep for the shoot. They took advantage of Ironman's 'Pump-up' area and could be heard laughing throughout the building. The girls even got in on the action and took turns taking random candid pictures with all the Ironman props packed throughout the space.
Next day's group (Danny, Mindy, Erin, Justin and Jonathan) got along equally as well. They took advantage of their down time during the shoot to work on their laptops, and send updates to their fans.
 Friday
Friday was a group 'fun' day, all about immersing them in the local bodybuilding and fitness culture. They attended a morning ceremony at Los Angeles City Hall where the legendary Joe Weider received a Lifetime Achievement Award. After a once in a lifetime photo-op with the legend himself, the group got in an afternoon workout at Gold's Gym Venice ('The Mecca of Bodybuilding') and trained right alongside the industry pros. They capped off the day with a meal around the corner at the Fireside Café, which specializes in high-protein, healthy fare.

 Saturday
Saturday, the contestants worked a half day at the Bodybuilding.com Booth at the LA Fitness Expo, and they made us look good. They were by far one of the fittest group of people there! People were excited to meet the inspirational role models they follow on BodySpace. The Ironman Magazine, BodySpace Spokesmodel Competition took place at 2:30 sharp on the Expo Main Stage and drew the largest crowd out of all the events.

The contestants headed backstage an hour prior to get stage ready. They all helped each other with last minute touch ups and words of encouragement. Two guys even did a quick 'pump-up' workout together on some nearby power-lifting equipment. The rest did push-ups and squats to tighten everything up.

Once they hit the stage, they absolutely shined. Everyone worked it like they owned it. They all made sure to thank BodySpace, Bodybuilding.com and their families for where they are today. Everyone peeked through the backstage curtains to watch their fellow contestants, now 'friends', take their turn. Unlike most competitions, there was nothing but absolute camaraderie among them all.

They obviously knew they couldn't all take home first place, and those that didn't accepted their trophies graciously, and although a bit disappointed, seemed truly thrilled to have come this far. Every contestant received an exclusive Bodybuilding.com Trophy, a Gym Bag packed with clothing and gear from Bodybuilding.com and Ironman and a yearlong subscription to Ironman Magazine.
In addition to this, the winners received three dozen long-stem roses from ProFlowers, an Ironman Magazine cover and editorial piece and yearlong contract with Bodybuilding.com. Head judge, Jamie Eason, made sure to let each and every one of them know that they were all amazing and had a marketable look that could take them as far as they wanted to go. She even took the time to speak with each of them individually backstage to help answer any questions they may have regarding the future and their potential careers in the industry.

To celebrate a weeklong event to remember, the BodySpace Contestants and their families and friends, along with the Bodybuilding.com staff, all went out for a much needed dinner and made sure to order extra dessert - they deserved it.
