What a weekend for professional bodybuilding; eye brows were raised, jaws were dropped, and questions were answered but even more were asked by shows end. The 17th Annual IFBB Europa Super Show gave the fans there money's worth and a whole lot more.

The 2010 Arnold Amateur saw the birth of a new IFBB Pro in the shape of Essa Obaid. Coming in via Dubai, Obaid made his professional debut here in Dallas and it was to the delight of all in attendance. Stepping onstage thick, full and as one of the most conditioned competitors in the show, he raised the question, "Who the hell is this guy?" from almost everyone in attendance. Athletes who win their pro debut are few and far between.

Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone and Phil Heath are some names that come to mind and these guys are the type of athlete that go down in history as great competitors and Hall of Fame Bodybuilders. Essa Obaid has had just one pro show, but he has catapulted himself to the elite of the IFBB and his name is on the lips of every bodybuilding pundit the world over this weekend.

The 202 Division was no different when it comes to pro debuts making a deep impact. Establishing himself as a clear and present danger in the race for the Olympia crowns was Seth Feroce, the 2009 Nationals Champion. Feroce managed to beat out IFBB veteran, Jaroslav Horvath, for the win, which is not a bad day's work for the rookie.

    The Men's 202 Division

    5th Place - Guy Cisternino:

This guy had a real pleasing physique, great balance and symmetry with no real weak points sticking out. However, this is professional bodybuilding and even slight weaknesses can be the difference between getting paid and going home empty handed. Guy could have been sharper and was holding a light layer of water during prejudging but was still good enough to earn himself a place in the finals. That being said, the Jersey native didn't take advantage of the situation and came into the finals looking a little flatter and a little paler. With some more work on his conditioning, Guy Cisternino could find himself being invited to the Olympia.

    4th Place - Myoba Edwards:

To say his back was thick would be like saying Stalone's new movie, The Expendables, has a couple of good action stars in it. Edwards came to Dallas to do business; he was shredded and grainy but his ridiculously thick upper body really overpowered his legs. He could have easily slipped into the top three here. I'm not sure of his exact weight, but if he has room to grow and can add size to his legs he will do some serious damage in this division in the future.

    3rd Place - Tricky Jackson:

Jackson was nowhere near his condition of the earlier season but still possessed enough quality muscle to earn him a spot in the top three. I felt he could have slipped back a few places this weekend but his mature muscle and symmetry were enough for him to make it to the podium.

    2nd Place - Jaroslav Horvath:

The IFBB Veteran is still a force to be reckoned with and could have easily won this show without protest. Jaroslav's muscle illustrates the maturity that can only come from almost two decades of competing. His conditioning was great but he was holding a little water in his lower back and glutes, which was enough to keep him out of the winners circle yet again.

2010 Europa Super Show 202 Champion - Seth Feroce:

Making his pro debut in style, Feroce defiantly made his mark on the 202 division. He has some really good shots such as the side chest and side triceps. I felt however, by comparison to the hamstrings he was lacking a little conditioning in the quads. His quads where huge and thick with some great cuts but lacked the crispness that he displayed in the rear legs shots. His back and triceps were shredded and with a little more thickness on his back, as his physique matures he will surely be knocking on the door of the Olympia title.

    The Men's Open Division

    5th Place - Michael Kefalianos:

The Aussie found himself in the posedown yet again, only to leave without that Olympia invite he has battled so hard all season to earn. He carries slabs of shredded muscle which looks like its hanging from every limb, which gives him a blocky look. On such a short frame the damage to his symmetry by being so heavily muscled is magnified. I'm sure he is heading back to the land down under wondering just what he has to do to make the final leap onto the podium and get that invite to the O.

    4th Place - Cedric McMillan:

McMillan was my dark horse coming into this contest, and if we were to go on the prejudging, he was in the running to actually go on and win the contest. His physique is not unlike that of bodybuilding legend Lee Haney, full muscle bellies, small joints and long limbs. His conditioning was good, but not great and here in the IFBB you need to be great to live up to the hype, especially when you are compared to an eight time Mr. Olympia.

    3rd Place - Bill Wilmore:

Big Bill was at his all time best; he was full, grainy and carried a hell of a lot of beef. The Floridian was in the running from the moment he stepped onstage, and fought the good fight and held on to his place when many others faded and fell at the final hurdle. Wilmore now finds himself having to make the decision, should I or shouldn't I hit the Olympia stage one more time.

    2nd Place - Mark Alvisi:

I had Mark in 5th place going into the finals behind Kefalianos, Wilmore and McMillen who I had in 2nd place after prejudging. He went to bed and awoke with a leaner fuller physique, of course having Hany Rambod and Rich Gaspari in his corner couldn't have hurt either. He had the dream pro debut, but while it wasn't perfect I'm sure he'll take his Olympia invite and his check with a smile.

2010 IFBB Europa Men's Champion - Essa Obaid:

The most popular question after prejudging was, "Who the hell is this guy?" Yes, this is the same guy who won his pro card at the Arnold Amateur less than a year ago and a few short months later he is annihilating the competition. This guy had it all, size, symmetry, thick grainy conditioning and all the right ingredients to become a champion within the IFBB.

    Notable Mentions

Other notable mentions are BSN athlete Brandon Curry, who after a two year layoff found himself falling short of the standard, but he has built a serious platform from which he can launch the 2011 season. And how could I write a review on a show that featured Markus Ruhl without mentioning him? Ruhl as always was a crowd pleaser but is merely a shadow of his former self. He is still the German Giant but his conditioning is nowhere near what it used to be and he suffered in the placings because of it. I, for one would love to see Markus nail his conditioning one last time before he decides to bow out of the sport for good.

Many thanks go out to Ed & Betty Pariso for another great show. For those of you who were not there, Ms. Betty Pariso announced her official retirement from competitive bodybuilding.

So, with only one more shot for the men to qualify for this year's Olympia, we are left to ponder who will be making the trip to Spain for one of those final three invites? Only time will tell.
