The IFBB fans got more than their money's worth when they witnessed the posedown at the Europa Battle of Champions in Hartford, Connecticut this weekend. Heir apparent for the Men's Open Division, Ben White, had to settle for 3rd place. IFBB veteran, Troy Alves, who came to Hartford with victory on his mind, was noticeably improved from the Tampa pro the previous week. However he had to settle for 2nd place for the second week in a row, while Ed "Second to" Nunn took home his first ever IFBB professional title.

Nunn was much improved from his 4th place finish in Tampa last weekend; his razor sharp conditioning was all the former Super Heavy National Champion was missing in his previous outings in the IFBB. Now he is going home to his first grandchild with an invite to the greatest show of them all, Joe Weider's Mr. Olympia.

On the women's front, rookie pro, Brigita Brezovac, goes two for two in her first season in the IFBB, relegating the veteran competitor, Cathy LeFrancois, to third place for the second week in a row. In the figure class Candice Keene made huge improvements on her last showing in Orlando, where she failed to place, by coming in top shape and earning not only her first ever invite to the Olympia, but also her first Pro Title to go with it. Pro Bikini saw its newest champion in the shape of Dianna Dahlgren, who was also the Flex cover model for their 2010 swimsuit special.

Now I know what you are all thinking here. What about the 202? The 202 division was more a Clash of the Titans style battle as former Olympia 202 Champion, Dave Henry, made his first appearance after losing his title only to be pushed to the side by last week's Tampa pro victor Jose Raymond. Henry had made some huge improvements both in size and symmetry. How he packs so much muscle on that 202lb frame I will never know. However, his conditioning was lacking just enough for him to be edged out by Jose Raymond himself, a seasoned competitor and on the back of his first ever pro victory.

So how did the cookie crumble? Well here is the break down...

    The Men's Open

    5th Place: Leo Ingram

The US Navy Veteran was without a doubt the biggest man on the stage, but his conditioning was not as good as we have seen from him in the past. He needs to focus on getting greater control over his midsection if he wants to get some higher placings. That being said, he does possess some great symmetry, which is rare on such a huge athlete.

    4th Place: Michael Kefalianos

Australia's latest export looks unbeatable when standing onstage alone, but when compared to the IFBB's elite his weaknesses become more apparent. He can look blocky in some poses, but with some better conditioning this should also improve. He is definitely one to watch in the future.

    3rd Place: Ben White

Winning the Tampa Pro just one week ago in the best shape of his life, White came to Hartford, a tad softer, and paid the ultimate price. That being said, two back to back Olympia qualification placings doesn't come easy and proves that his Tampa win was no fluke.

    2nd Place: Troy Alves

What can I say about Troy Alves that I haven't said before? Troy came to Hartford gunning for the victory after losing out to Ben White in Tampa. He got his revenge on Ben but missed his goal by mere inches when it came to taking home the first place check. Alves has one of the most symmetrical physiques in the IFBB today and when he steps onstage dialed in, he can take out almost anybody, which is what he did here in Hartford. Congrats grandpa.

The 2010 IFBB Europa Battle of Champions Winner: Ed Nunn

When Ed Nunn made his pro debut in 2009 I tipped him as my dark horse to take home the win along with an invite to the Olympia. None of it materialized, that is until now. Nunn, who was 4th and still without his golden ticket to the O last week, came to Hartford with one thing on his mind, victory! His conditioning which I felt was lacking last weekend in Tampa, was vastly improved and the only thing keeping him from going to Vegas. He dialed it in for The Battle of Champions and that, packaged with his huge X frame, was enough for the judges to award him the winner's check.

    The Women

    3rd Place: Cathy LeFrancois

The 2010 NY Pro Champion had to settle for 3rd place last weekend in Tampa and again here in Hartford. She has added some serious size and her conditioning is insane, and this may actually be making her suffer in the placings. A more streamlined physique may be more suited to her frame. We will have to wait for the Olympia to see if she goes back to her winning ways.

    2nd Place: Helen Bouchard

4th last week in Tampa, Bouchard came to Harford in good enough condition to move up two placings, her best ever in the IFBB. She has a great balance of mass, conditioning and symmetry, and now she can showcase her improved physique on the Olympia Stage.

2010 Europa Battle of Champions Winner: Brigita Brezovac

Brezovac made her IFBB debut in style last weekend in Tampa by taking the win and now she has a professional record of 2-0. Not a bad start to her professional career. She possesses a very well proportioned physique, reminiscent of another former European Champion and Ms. Olympia First Runner Up, Anja Langer from the 80's.

    Figure

The figure title went to Candice Keene, who failed to make the finals in her last outing in the IFBB. Keene came back with a much improved physique to leave her competition out in the cold. She goes home with the winner's check and one of those coveted golden tickets to the Olympia.

    Bikini

Flex cover model, Dianna Dahlgren, showed the fans and the judges just why she is here in the IFBB. She made some improvements from her pro debut and now the 20 year old is going to Vegas with a pro title under her belt.

    Conclusion

So there you have it, my two cents and a little bit more. After the first annual Hartford Battle of Champions we have three new IFBB Champions in the form of Ed Nunn, Candice Keene and Dianna Dahlgren. We also have two repeat winners, Jose Raymond (2010 Tampa Pro & Battle of Champions Winner) and Brigita Brezovac (2010 Tampa Pro & Battle of Champions Winner). Ed & Betty Pariso and Europa are giving the fans what they want, top notch competition and weekends of fun and muscle all over the country. With only a couple more contests remaining before the greatest contest of them all, time is running out for those who have yet to qualify. The crowning of more IFBB Champions is drawing ever closer. Is this the greatest IFBB season of all time? I'll answer that question in Vegas this coming September.
