Another successful Europa Super Show is in the books. Over 100 IFBB Professional competitors took the stage in Dallas over the weekend and the competition was fierce. Promoters Ed and Betty Pariso did a tremendous job of putting together a great event. Each of the overall winners tasted victory for the first time in their pro careers.

    Men's Bodybuilding

    1. Essa Ibrahim Obaid

No one predicted Essa in their top five much less win the contest. Essa cruised to a unanimous victory in his pro debut. It's rare that a rookie will win their pro debut much less within the same year as turning pro. Essa Obaid, from Duabi, was the 2010 Arnold Amateur overall winner. His conditioning was some of the best in the show and he found a winning formula with the help of his contest guru, George Farah.

If there is anything he needs to work on it's his hamstrings and his stage presence. He dominated the front poses but when posing from the back he lacks details and separation in his quads. Essa has massive shoulders and fairly balanced upper body. I don't see him cracking the top 10 at the Olympia but never say never.

    2. Mark Alvisi

I had Mark battling for 5th place after the prejudging. The judges scoresheet shows he was in 4th after the prejudging concluded on Friday evening. Mark's lower body was on point during the prejudging but his upper body wasn't as sharp. As prejudging went on Mark seemed to fade, especially in his lower back. Based on the callouts on Friday many people thought he may not crack the top five.

When the final results were announced on Saturday everyone in attendance was stunned when his name was announced in second. He had miraculously moved up into second at the evening show. No disrespect intended to Mark or the judges but I didn't see it. Everyone I spoke to was in agreement that 4th would have been as high as they would have placed him. Even Mark was in disbelief on stage as he was left standing next to Essa for the final announcement.

Mark is a solid bodybuilder but still has some work to do with his chest and detail in his back. He's a decent poser and showed he can hang in the pros but he'll need a little more time to be top 10 at the Olympia.

    3. Bill Wilmore

Big Bad Bill showed his best physique to date. I thought he had come in a few pounds lighter than the past but when I spoke to him after the show he told me he weighed the same as last year. His physique appeared to be better balanced than in past years. He's always had a great back but his legs seemed to lag behind. This show I didn't see that.

Bill was on point with his conditioning and put together his best look as a pro. He still needs some work on his arms and calves to move up into a top spot. I had him in third after the prejudging and ultimately that's where he finished.

    4. Cedric McMillan

Cedric was pegged by many to be a lock to win this show. Lonnie Teper went so far as to pick him as a top ten competitor in this year's Olympia. Ced not to finishing in the top three was the second biggest surprise of the night. Second only to Alvisi's runner-up finish. Cedric was without a doubt the most genetically gifted competitor on stage and packed a ton of muscle.

I had him in the second place spot after prejudging and it's where the judges had him as well. He was three points ahead of Bill Wilmore and 5 points ahead of Alvisi. The scores show him in a tie with Wilmore at the finals, both with 30 point to Alvisi's 29. I'm not sure how the tie breaker was made but it left Cedric on the outside of an Olympia qualification. He didn't have the sharp conditioning that others did but he still had the best overall physique in the show. Lesson learned for his next show... come in dry and hard or you'll be left outside of the big dance.

    5. Michael Kefalianos

Mike was the hardest guy in the whole show. When he came out for prejudging things were popping and every muscle was shredded. Unfortunately, he continues to have have a terrible tan with a funky color. It washes out what he brings to the stage and it's a shame as I know people have told him to change it. He also poses a bit weird and it isn't flattering to his physique.

He's a shorter guy with a ton of muscle. It's not the prettiest physique but if he can pose it better in the future he'll move up. He's been the most consistent bodybuilder this year, finishing in the top five of every show he's done.

    Others To Note...

Brandon Curry failed to make the top five for the second time. What's in store for Brandon's future? He was hyped as one of the next big things by FLEX magazine and BSN but his rookie year as been less than stellar. He has a solid upper body but lacks the legs size and detail to be a top contender at this point. Ron Avidan picked Markus Ruhl to win this show but he finished in 7th. That was a generous placing for Markus as he lacked the conditioning he's shown in the past. He packs a ton of muscle but it's not pretty.

    Men's 202

    1. Seth Feroce

Seth dominated from the beginning of the show. He was spot on with his conditioning and if he shows up like this at the 202 Olympia he should be in the top five. He poses with authority and makes himself appear bigger than he is with his posing. He could add some thickness to his lower back. Great rookie debut and props on winning in dominate fashion.

    2. Jaroslav Horvath

Jaroslav seemed stunned that he was second when the awards were announced. Pouting and talking to the judges on stage is never a good idea. Win with class and lose with class. He was out conditioned and there was no doubt that second would be as high as he would finish in this contest. His color could have been darker and more conditioned from the back. He was holding a bit of water in his lower back and glutes which became more apparent when compared to Seth.

    3. Tricky Jackson

I've seen Tricky drier before but he was in pretty good shape. It wasn't his best showing but if he had been 100% I don't think he would have beaten Seth. I could have seen him overtaking Jaroslav for second if his conditioning was better. One of the most entertaining posers, Tricky has come into his own on stage in the last year.

    4. Myoba Edwards

He has good arms and brought solid conditioning to this contest. Myoba's genetics may prevent him from ever winning a pro show but he has done a great job with what he's working with. He'll need to improve his posing and hold his poses longer in future shows. He has a good back with solid thickness. Overall a very good showing for Myoba.

    5. Gaetano Cisternino

Guy dramatically improved from his pro debut. He had improved conditioning, better posing and looked like a different competitor than his showing at the Hartford 202. He still wasn't 100% with his conditioning, especially from the back. He'll need to improve his conditioning and add more detail to his back for future shows. He has pretty good legs and if they were a bit drier they'd look even more impressive.

    Others To Note...

The Texas Shredder failed to live up to his name in his first contest. He missed the mark with his conditioning and had a less than a stellar debut. He does the vacuum pose pretty impressively but that was about the only thing that got the home town to cheer. If Clarence DeVis can ever nail his conditioning he'll be a contender. He was off the mark once again and came in holding too much water to be a top threat.

    Fitness

    1. Bethany Wagner

Bethany notched her first pro win by winning the physique round and pulling a solid routine. She won the 2-piece round in unanimous fashion and deservedly so. She tied Shannon Meteraud for second in the routine round and I thought that was also a fair placing for her. I'd like to see Bethany smile more on stage. When she does you're drawn to her more versus the grumpy look she displays at times. She has a great physique and could be top six at the Olympia if she nails her routine.

    2. Myriam Capes

Poor Mimi had to settle for second once again. Myriam was 4th after the physique round and it was where I would have her in the comparisons as well. Her waist still appears a little thick compared to the other women but she's improved leaps and bounds over the years. She won the routine round and it helped move her up into second. She actually tied Shannon with 26 points but won the tie breaker.

It wasn't my favorite routine I've seen of Myriam's. She has tremendous talent and I like her when she demonstates high energy and power versus the cutesy routine she did here. She has the ability to be top six at the Olympia but it won't be easy.

    3. Shannon Meteraud

Shannon showed a much improved package here than at last year's Olympia. She was second in the physique round and I'd like to see her pose her back poses a little better. She tends to roll her shoulder a little too far ahead. Her body looked rested and and she held her own and then some. She was tied for second in the routines and overall did a nice job.

Shannon has great strength and some impressive moves. If she is going to use her Transformer routine again, I'd like to see her ditch the wheel or use it more as it was a little confusing as to what she was doing with it in the beginning of her routine. I would have put her in second but no shame in third.

    4. Regiane Da Silva

Regiane is always full of high energy in her routines and it was no different in Dallas. Had she been a little tighter with her physique she may have cracked the top three. It's always fun watching her perform and I could have seen her a little higher with her routine but had to settle for fourth.

    5. Allison Ethier

Allison cracked the top five thanks to her routine. She has some solid skills but I'm not a huge fan of the Italiano theme. Maybe if she was Italian I'd dig it but I'd like to see her bring something with more energy and I could see her placing higher. Allison's downfall is from the back, in the physique rounds. She'll need more detail in her back and sharper conditioning to move up.

Alti Bautista was in shape for her fitness return. Her routine wasn't one of the better ones but she still finished in 6th. I was surprised that Autumn Edwards placed 15th in her debut. I like her physique and my guess is that the judges didn't care for her Wizard of Oz theme.

    Figure

    1. Terri Turner

There was no question in the eyes of the judges on this one. They had Terri winning with straight ones from everyone. I like Terri's look but felt there were better physiques than hers in this show. I think she's a little too straight up and down from the back and lacks lat width. She presents herself well on stage and has great presence. This is her first win in the IFBB and likely not her last.

    2. Alicia Harris

I would have Alicia winning but no shame in second. She's dramatically improved her posing and polished her physique since a dismal showing at the Figure International. I like the look she's brought the last two shows. She carries a good deal of momentum into the Olympia and should be a top ten contender.

    3. Teresa Anthony

Teresa was a bit sharper than a week earlier at the Jacksonville show and it helped her move up. She has a nice look to her and presents with confidence. She could open up a bit more with her posing but overall she found her stride.

    4. Monica Mark-Escalante

Monica brought a much smaller and less conditioned physique here than she did in Hartford. It was a very noticeable change from that show. The judges rewarded her for being balanced and not super conditioned. Since the top three women were already qualified she got the nod for an Olympia qualification. Look for her to be even sharper at the Olympia next month.

    5. Josie Zamora

Josie has a nice physique and has been a contender since turning pro at the 2010 Jr. Nationals. Her presentation holds her back in my opinion. I'd like to see her smile and show some teeth. She smiles in an uncomfortable manner and the bright red lipstick is not flattering. Her hair is also distracting as it covers up half of her face. Josie also sticks one leg straight out in a model pose and it's not a feminine, flattering pose. If she can correct some of the little details she could move up into a higher spot.

    Others To Note:

Mindi Smith finished in seventh after many people thought she would be the winner before the show. She was way off the mark and better to do it here than at the Olympia. I would have placed her lower than 7th and she'll need to dramatically improve if she hopes to crack the top six at the Olympia. Ava Cowan was 8th and it left many wondering why. I don't have the answer but I wouldn't have blinked if she was higher in the placing. I certainly would have placed her higher than Mindi and likely over Gina Trochino who was in 6th.

    Bikini

    1. Amanda Latona

Amanda Latona showed up with a more streamlined physique and improved posing from her debut at the Muscle Contest where she finished third. Many felt it was between her and Melo coming into the contest and she delivered. I'd like to see her improve her stage presence when she poses individually. When she presents in the comparison rounds she comes alive and you can see the competitive side of her take over.

When she's confident she's dominant. It was clear that she was the winner after prejudging. This is Amanda's first pro win and positions her as the favorite to win the Bikini Olympia next month.

    2. Alison Rosen

Ali continued her winning ways since turning pro last month at the NPC USAs. She's a pretty girl and presents herself in a playful, flirty manner and the judges are drawn to it. It's nothing personal but I don't see it. She never poses her front in the individual poses and is way too soft when moving from pose to pose. When you compare her to Melo and Latona it looks like she has no butt at all. Props to her for bringing what the judges like.

    3. Nathalia Melo

Melo was my pick to win the show going into the event but she had to settle for third here. A few missteps cost her the win and not only the win but all the way to third. I was a little surprised that she finished behind Rosen but it's a reminder that if you don't have everything on point it will cost ya. Nathalia was way too lean and too small on her upper body. When she posed from the back she was great but from the front it was like a different body.

Her makeup was off at the prejudging and made her face look flat. She drank some water, ate and redid her makeup for the finals and it looked like a different person. She didn't have the same sass we saw in Orlando and Pittsburgh. She'll need to go back to what worked in those shows if she hopes to leave the Olympia the first bikini champ.

    4. Bianca Binno

Bianca has a nice swimsuit look to her and a Penelope Cruz look-a-like. I wasn't a fan of the suit she wore here as it looked more like something for a photoshoot. It covered up too much of her butt and was too loose on the top. She hammed it up on stage and her fourth place finish granted her an Olympia spot since the top three were already qualified. A pretty impressive feat considering she has less than five total shows to her credit in the pros and amateurs combined.

    5. Jennifer Dietrick

Jennifer has a nice physique and would like to see her present with more energy. She seems almost sedated when she's posing and not a happy camper. Her suit bottoms were too small and I wouldn't be surprised if they are made an example of what not to wear in the future. If she can ramp up the energy in the future she'll move up.

    Others To Note...

Dayna Maleton moved up to sixth and if she can get comfortable on stage she'd place even higher. She has the physique but still poses like she's scared and lacks confidence. Monique Ricardo went from second in her pro debut to eighth here. She was a bit too soft and her shoulders looked big compared to the other women. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Monique leave bikini behind and pursue her MMA/fighting career.

    Conclusion

The Pariso's will be bringing back all three Europa shows next year and have added a fourth show to Chicago. The new show will be the third highest pay day behind the Olympia and Arnold. It's scheduled for after the Olympia and should be another great addition to their growing set of promotions.
