      In 2009, the 21st Anniversary Arnold Classic will welcome back many of the event's past champions offering a rare opportunity to gather with icons of men's bodybuilding.

      The Arnold Classic is the premiere event in men's professional bodybuilding and annually welcomes the sport's top professional athletes who will compete for top prize money and the coveted Audemars Piguet watch.

      Prejudging for the Arnold Classic is held annually Saturday at 12 noon at Veterans Memorial Auditorium proceeding the 7 p.m. evening finals. The Arnold Classic annually sells out and fills the entire Veterans Memorial Auditorium. 15 international judges and officials will preside in 2009 at the 21st annual Arnold Classic, and the Ms. International, Fitness International, and Figure International events.

    Amateur Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure

      The 2009 Arnold Amateur IFBB International Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championships will welcome a diverse array of NPC amateur athletes and top amateur athletes from Europe, Asia, and Canada. Competitions will be held at Veterans Memorial Auditorium March 5 & 6 with the Finals at the Greater Columbus Convention Center Saturday, March 7.

      Event Co-Chairs Bob Lorimer and Mike Davies will welcome Posedown Magazine, a nationally recognized Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure monthly magazine out of Dallas, Texas, as overall award presenters throughout the 2009 Arnold Amateur competitions.

      The 2009 Arnold Amateur IFBB International Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure Championship sponsors include the IFBB Amateur Division, Aminogen Carbogen, Bodybuilding.com, Collins, McDonald & Gann Attorneys at Law, Healthy Image Fitness Products, Live Technologies, Inc., and MET-Rx.

      The 2009 Arnold Amateur Competitions will include Men's & Women's Bodybuilding, Women's Fitness, Figure and the 2009 NPC Amateur Bikini Championships.     Martial Arts

      The 2009 Arnold Martial Arts Festival will feature elite martial arts celebrities including UFC's Superstars and leading names from every corner of the world demonstrating and competing in 26 unique disciplines including Aikido, Hapkido, Judo, Karate, Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do Open & Olympic, Capoeria, Kickboxing, Specially Challenged, and Chinese Martial Arts.

      The Arnold Martial Arts Festival will welcome youth and adult competitors for the 3-day festival organized annually by martial arts legend Terrance "Tokey" Hill.

      Hill is an internationally recognized martial arts coach, 6-time National Karate Champion, and the first American to ever win the World Karate Federation World Championships. Designated as a former U.S. Olympic Team Coach of the Year for his team's performance at the 1999 Pan American Games, Hill annually leads the Midwest's largest martial arts tournament with Open and Olympic style competition in the martial art disciplines of Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Boxing, Grappling/Ju Jitsu, and Chinese styles with 26 disciplines in all. Specially challenged athletes compete in virtually every area of the festival.

    5K Pump & Run

      The 2009 Arnold 5K Pump and Run, the largest event of its kind in the world, has sold out in a record three days, race director Matt McGowan has announced.A field of 750 athletes have registered for this year's 5K Pump and Run, set for March 8, 2009 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center as part of the 2009 Arnold Sports Festival.

      Athletes from 30 states, up from 25 states in 2008, and two other countries will participate in this year's 5K Pump and Run.

      The Arnold 5K Pump and Run tests overall fitness by measuring both strength and endurance. Competitors bench a pre-determined percentage of their body weight, with each repetition (up to a max of 30) reducing the following 5-kilometer run time by 30 seconds. In 2008, West Virginia's Matt Quinlet ran a 16:43 5k after benching his body weight 30 times for a net time of 1:43.

      Michigan's Lisa Veneziano won the women's race for a fourth-straight year with a net time of 3:17 (18:17 5k, 30 reps). While the 5K Pump and Run is sold out, applications are still being accepted for a companion 5-kilometer race, also held on March 8, 2009.

    Armwrestling

      The 2009 Arnold Classic Armwrestling Challenge will be the Mecca of Muscle as it welcomes the world's top male and female athletes in arm sports.

      The annual two-day event features wall to wall flying forearms, bulging biceps, and tough tendons.

      Each year the Titans of Arm Sports gather inside the Greater Columbus Convention Center on the centerpiece Arnold EXPO stage for two days of armsport action that annually showcases male and female armsport athletes.

      International qualifiers are held across the world in advance of the event in Great Britain, Armenia, Canada, Norway, Israel, and the USA. Two new qualifiers have been added in 2008 and will be held in Turkey and Brazil.

      The 2009 Arnold Classic Armwrestling Challenge (ACAC) will take place before a teeming throng of arm sport aficionados on the Arnold Fitness EXPO stage Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7.

    Archery

      In 2009, the Arnold Sports Festival will host the 3rd Annual Arnold Archery Competition featuring the Ohio National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Tournament on Friday, March 6, 2009 in the Lausche Building of the Ohio Expo Center. The participation of NASP adds significantly to the stature of the Olympic sport competition.

      The event will welcome competitors' grades 4 through 12 in the 3rd annual statewide competition featuring school teams from across Ohio. Each team will compete using the uniform Genesis bow designed to fit all sizes of shooters. The first place team in each of the 3 divisions will qualify to attend the National Archery in the Schools National Championship.

    Boxing

      The 2009 4th Annual Arnold Boxing Invitational Championships will showcase beginner to elite level USA Amateur boxers in a USA Boxing sanctioned competition.

      Former World Heayweight Champion of the World James "Buster" Douglas will be hand to welcome youth amateur boxers and to introduce rising names in women's boxing.

    Cheerleading & Dance Team Nationals

      The Arnold Cheerleading and Dance Nationals will host 4,500 youth through collegiate competitors in cheerleading and dance team performance. Each team competes for top prize money and award recognition.

      Youth perform in the cheer & dance divisions for All-Star, Rec, Youth, Special Olympic, Open, and Collegiate Team divisions. In 2009 this event will be held at Franklin County Veterans Memorial.

    Arnold Youth Dancesport Classic

      Youth and Collegiate Dance Sport showcases athleticism and artistry through competitive dancing. The nation's elite compete in this elegant event that includes an international dance competition with U.S dance couples competing against Canadian dance couples.

    Fencing

      USA Olympic medalists Mariel Zagunis, Sada Jacobson to appear at 2009 Arnold Fencing Classic

      New in 2009, the premiere of FIE Epee fencing in the United States with (Federation Internationale d'Escrime or International Fencing Federation) The Arnold Fencing Classic FIE Satellite World Cup Sunday, March 8

      U.S. Fencing stars Mariel Zagunis of Beaverton, Ore., and Sada Jacobson of Dunwoody, Ga., will appear at the Arnold Fencing Classic to be held during the 2009 Arnold Sports Festival.

      Zagunis, who won a gold medal and a bronze medad at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, recently finished third in the U.S. Olympic Committee voting for USOC Female Athlete of the Year. Zagunis finished behind gymnast Nastia Liukin and swimmer Natalie Coughlin in the voting.

      Zagunis successfully defended the gold medal in women's saber individual competition that she won at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. She also won a bronze medal in the inaugural Olympic women's saber team competition with Jacobson and Becca Ward of Portland Ore.

      Zagunis led a historic sweep of the three individual medals for women's saber by the U.S., as Jacobson won silver and Ward took bronze. It marked the first time a country has swept the medals in an individual fencing event since Germany did it in women's foil at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea.

      New in 2009, the premiere of FIE Epee fencing in the United States with (Federation Internationale d'Escrime or International Fencing Federation) The Arnold Fencing Classic FIE Satellite World Cup Sunday, March 8.

      This inaugural event will welcome elite male epee fencers from throughout Europe, South America, Canada, and the United States. Many will vie for World Cup competition.

      The sixth-annual Arnold Fencing Classic will be held March 8 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center and will offer competitions for all ages and weapons. A youth fencing competitor will also receive at $2,000 college scholarship from the Columbus Rotary.

    Gymnastics

      The 9th Annual Arnold Gymnastics Challenge - the largest mixed gymnastics meet in the nation - will welcome 4,000 youth participants (3,500 females and 500 males). The 3-day competition regularly features performances by acclaimed U.S. Olympians including Columbus's own Blaine Wilson.

      The meet is directed by gymnastic star Tim Willson, a Columbus resident and a 4 year Varsity letterman for Ohio State University's Gymnastics Team. Willson served as a member of the 1985 NCAA Championship Team, and a member of the 1985 and 1987 Big 10 Championship Team.

    Powerlifting

      USA Powerlifting is a member of the USOC recognized International Powerlifting Federation. Powerlifting comprises three lifts, the Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift.

      Each athlete is permitted three attempts at each lift and athletes are categorized by sex, age, and bodyweight.

    Strongman

      The Arnold Strongman Contest will welcome the world's most elite Strongman athletes in 2009. MHP Human Performance is a critical partner in the Arnold Strongman Contest. Top past performers have included World's Strongest Man - USA's Phil Pfister, Zydrunas Savickas, Mariuz Pudzianowski, Svend Karlsen, and Brad Gillingham.

      These champions compete in front of a mesmerized crowd at the Arnold Fitness EXPO, with the final event Saturday evening on the Arnold Classic stage. The athletes compete in a variety of events for more than $150,000 in awards, and the coveted $10,000 bronze statue of legendary strongman Louis Cyr.

      Events in the Arnold Strongman Contest are designed and supervised by Dr. Terry and Dr. Jan Todd of the University of Texas at Austin. Six events were showcased in 2008 and in 2009 may include the Apollon Wheel, a unique barbell first used by turn-of-the century strongman Louis "Apollon" Uni that resembles two train wheels welded to a thick bar for a total weight of 366 lbs. - only ten men have ever lifted it overhead; the Tire Deadlift where athletes lift a 14' long bar weighted with up to 8 truck tires.

      Other events may include the One-Handed Overhead Dumbbell Lift where contestants lift a 195 lb. dumbbell as many times as possible in a 90 second timeframe; the Hammer of Strength where the athletes will upend an 18' long giant hammer; the Yoke Walk - athletes are saddled with a 1,116 lb. shoulder yoke and must walk a distance of approximately 36 feet; and the Farmer's Walk where competitors have 30 seconds to lift and carry 865 lbs. of barn timbers bolted together up a 32' incline ramp.

    Table Tennis

      The 6th Annual Arnold Table Tennis Challenge will showcase the Killerspin Table Tennis World Tour featuring the world's top champions and former National Team members in fiercely competitive matches.

      The annual 3-day event includes elite matches on Saturday and top action by collegiate teams. Visitors are always afforded the opportunity to try their hands at this fast paced sport.

    Weightlifting

      The Olympic sport of weightlifting is made up of two lifts, the Snatch and the Clean-and-Jerk. World level athletes including 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Mathias Steiner of Germany will be present alongside youth and adults lifters from across America.

    Wrestling

      The 2009 Arnold Wrestling Challenge, will be held Sunday March 8th under the direction of Event Chairman Paul Bukky.
