2008 NGA Mountain States Review!

This was the second year that the Mountain States High School division was has been offered. Last year there were 8 competitors and this year this group has grown to 11 contestants. Read on to learn more about the teens and all the other competitors!

Saturday May 24th was a cool 65-degree day, a considerable change from the year before when it was 95-degrees. This event was held at Bountiful High School, in Bountiful, Utah, a suburb just north of Salt Lake.

This was the second year that we have offered the Mountain States High School division. Last year there were 8 competitors and this year this group has grown to 11 contestants. Cheers could be herd as the athletes entered the stage.

This was the first time that 10 of these contestants had ever competed, while the eleventh competitor had been in only one competition one-month prior. This was a regional contest and any high school student in the Mountain States region, was eligible to compete.

We had only one high school competitor from out of state, Zach Bentley from Helena, Montana, he drove down with his dad, who was also a competitor in the Masters division.

I believe that most every high school has students that are genetically gifted with the type of muscular physique needed to win a bodybuilding contest. I am very pleased with the turn out that we had at this competition, but I also feel that just a small portion of these students competed.

We give thanks to teachers like Scott Lewis from Granger High and Ron Gualtier from Logan High who worked with and encouraged these young athletes to compete.

As this group of high school competitors entered the stage you could hear the comments and feel the excitement being generated from the audience as they focused on their favored competitor. This group had a variety of diverse physiques from thick & muscular to the tall lean muscular physique.
