Contest Review

This year's NPC Bill Grant Bodybuilding & Figure Classic in Allentown, Pennsylvania came to a close late Sunday afternoon July 27th at the giant 4-day Lehigh Valley SportsFest.

It turned out to be a day that will live in infamy! The grounds were wet from a downpour the night before. We would have to fight off the chance of showers that afternoon. The morning progressed on schedule but prior to Pre-judging the anticipated showers finally rolled in. Still, the crowd and competitors stood fast.

After a brief summer thunderstorm the clouds quickly passed. The show began and out came the sun and the bodybuilding stars. The crowd and competitors were even more energized after the delay and were determined to make this a great event.

The show opened with Jaquetta Perry, a true entertainer and rising star in the world of inspirational music. She sang the national anthem and performed songs from her musical library along with her "Kid Dancers". Then came guest poser Taylor Boyd with a stunning routine. The crowd was enthusiastic and pumped up from the beginning to the end of Jaquetta's show.

Legendary bodybuilder, Mr. America/ Mr. World Bill Grant organized the Bodybuilding & Figure event along with Craig Johnson of Top Physique. Bill's long-time friend Leon Brown, whose famous back shot is seen in the middle pages of Pumping Iron, showed his support by returning to the Classic once again.

The NPC Bill Grant Bodybuilding & Figure Classic drew competitors from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and as far away as Arizona. Numerous vendors provided free samples of their products and services.

Without doubt this was the greatest group of well-conditioned competitors we've ever had. Each and everyone should be commended for the hard work and dedication it took just to make it to the stage on Sunday.

Each competitor received a goodie bag with an official Bodybuilding.com t-shirt and an array of our Sponsors' products and samples. The overall winners received a Niels Andersen Sculpture, $250 of sports supplements and Bill Grant's Old School Training DVD.

-> Guest Posers:

    Our two IFBB Pro guest posers, Brian Chamberlain and Evgeny Mishin, looked absolutely amazing for being three weeks out for the IFBB Europa Super show August 15th.

    We wish them both great success at the Europa show and in their future endeavors.

-> Highlights:

    Rap Legend Mele Mel former leader of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee presented awards to the winning competitors.

    As guest poser Brian Chamberlain finished his posing routine, Evgeny Mishin jumped on stage and challenged Brian to a posedown. They decided to give the audience a preview of what to expect when they compete against one another at the upcoming Europa Super Show.

    Just when you thought it could get no crazier, Hip Hop Legend Mele Mel jumped on stage, tore off his shirt and participated in the posedown. Then Taylor Boyd joined in with the impromptu competition.

    Mele Mel challenged the Emcee Bill Grant, to join the posedown. Bill Grant pulled up his shirt and rolled up his sleeve to show the ripped abs and shredded biceps that got him the title of Mr. World title back in 1974.
