The 2006 Oregon Iron Man Bodybuilding Championships was incredible! Ron and Sue Smith always produce a superb show! This year was no exception. 2006 saw more athletes, more guest posers, more audience participation and just more fun overall. This is what makes a bodybuilding competition first-class! Kim "Kong" Farrison, emcee'd the show in another stunning phat ensemble that rocked (see pic, right)!
The first guest poser opened with a routine to "The devil went down to Georgia", was National Fitness Champion and Oregon's own Nikki Crawford, who did a routine that would break any person's back. Nikki is one of the top champion fitness models in the Northwest. She can do moves like no other fitness athlete!
The last but not the least of the great guest posers was Oregon's own bodybuilding champion, Sean Calder. This guy could have just stood there and made the audience holler, but amazed and impressed everyone with his awesome size and muscularity.
A special presentation award was given to 1986 Champion bodybuilder, Terry Fultz by Ron Smith for his contribution to Oregon bodybuilding and it was a great introduction to an outstanding athlete.
What a show the 2006 Oregon Iron Man Bodybuilding Championships was.
There was an impressive array of athletes in this year's Oregon Iron Man with 98 entrants across all classes. The competition was fierce in the really tough Masters classes and also in the Open Men's Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight classes.
To start with, the Teen class was won by Anthony Burgess, who also competed in the novice men's light heavyweight class.
Novice Women's lightweight was won by Kathy Kauffman. In the Novice Women's Heavyweight class the winner was Heidi Young who also took the Novice Overall. Heidi also won the overall masters fitness division in the Figure/Fitness show. She is the mother of five lovely children, one whose birthday was the day of the figure show.
In the Novice Men's division, the Novice Men Lightweight winner was Tony Tully, Novice Men Light Middleweight went to Aaron Whitten. The Novice Men Middleweight winner was Bill Johnson, Light Heavyweight went to David Mylar (who looks great for being 52) and Heavyweight went to Devon Stephenson. In a split decision, Novice Men Overall went to Aaron Whitten.
In the Masters Women over 35 class, the first place winner was the gorgeous Dani Craig, who has become a familiar face on the Bodybuilding stage.
In the very tough Masters Men's class, the over 40 lightweight winner was Kris Shumway, who proved that you don't look your age when you work out and eat right. Over 40 Heavyweight winner was Frank Smith.
Masters Men over 50 went to Felton Campbell who had an awesome posing routine and Masters Men over 60 (yes, 60) was taken by Dick Eilertson. Overall Masters Men Champ was Kris Shumway. Great job, Kris, in a very competitive class.
The Mixed Pairs class was won by Dani Craig and Devon Stephenson, both having already snatched first place in their respective novice classes.
In the Open Women division, Open Women Lightweight went to Nancy Lublink. Open Women Middleweight went to Vicki Combest and Open Women Heavyweight and Overall winner was won by, big surprise, Dani Craig. I hope she brought a U-haul for all those trophies!
Finally, in the Men's Open division, Bantamweight was won by Dale Morishige, Lightweight winner was John Andrew, Middleweight winner was Larry Eleverud who also was a big crowd favorite. Light Heavyweight winner went to the awesome Kyle McKern (a former Ranger) and Heavyweight winner was John Smith, who looked bigger than ever.
The Open Men's winner, in a split decision, went to Kyle McKern. Great job, Kyle. He could be seeing a pro card in the very near future.
Great job to all the athletes, and hope to see you again next year. And a fantastic job to Ron and Sue Smith, who produced another fantastic Oregon Iron Man.

The 2006 Oregon Iron Man
Women's Fitness and Figure Championship
The Women's Fitness and Figure Championship Competition was a great show. There beautiful figure contestants and the fitness ladies routines were awesome to watch!
Mr. Kim "Kong" Farisson was the Master of Ceremonies and he must have enjoyed the show introducing each of these gorgeous contestants.
Ron and Sue Smith came out to talk to the audience and thanked their crew and the audience and Kim Farrison. Ron also gave credit to Sue for doing 90 percent of the work while he gets "90 percent" of the credit. She really goes all out in the design of the set and the table settings and picks up all of the slack now that Ron is a full time teacher.
To get the crowd warmed up, national fitness champion Nikki Crawford dazzled the audience in a rousing routine to "The Devil went down to Georgia." This top fitness champion is also a wife and mother of three.
Starting first with the Fitness women, the lovely Mandy Potts took first place with a fabulous routine and looking lithe and lean in the two piece round and even more stunning in the one piece round. Congratulations to you!
On with the ladies figure competition, in the Masters Figure Short, first place went to Marla West. Masters Women Tall went to Heidi Young, who is making quite a name for herself in both the fitness and bodybuilding competitions held this weekend. She took first place in not only in the Masters Figure Overall, but took the Novice Women's Overall also in the bodybuilding contest held the next day. Way to go, Heidi!!
In the Figure under 5'2' - Kristi Tauti took first place. In the Figure under 5'3", the winner was Sasha Estrada. The Figure under 5'4" winner was Jennifer McAlister. The Figure under 5'5" went to the incredible Nina Dhevaphalin and special credit must go to her as she suffered a dehydration calf cramp on stage but gamely went on sans heels to win. Way to go, Nina!
The Figure under 5'6" - Ashley Cheney took first place. Figure under 5'8" was gamely won by Heidi Young. She looked great. And she is a mother of five children yet. Her husband was very proud of her.
Figure over 5'8" was won by the statuesque Jessica Kaiser. She was a sight to behold.
At the end, the overall Figure winner was Kristi Tauti. She looked radiant. Kim Farrison invited her husband and her little daughter up on stage to share in the big win. It's hard to believe she had her little girl a little more than a year ago. She looked absolutely awesome!
Great job to Ron and Sue Smith of RK Smith Productions for producing another outstanding show and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to cover it for them.
