The 2006 Ohio State Championships once again lived up to its billing as the most competitive NPC show in the state. 107 competitors, including cross-overs, turned out to compete on September 2nd. The classes were stacked and the large crowd of spectators definitely walked away with their monies worth! The night started off with the Men’s masters division. Joe Downs took this class, for what turned out to be a memorable night for Joe. In the Master’s figure division, Natalie Calland won the overall and she also won the open figure C class. Open figure A class winner was Kara Flowers. The open B class winner was Brianna Tindall. The Overall Figure title went to Flowers. The Fitness overall winner was Tina Durkin. Next was Women’s open bodybuilding. Lightweight winner was Stephanie Ervin, and Middleweight winner was Dianne Day. Ervin was the Overall winner. The last division of the night was Men’s bodybuilding. The bantamweight class winner was Richard Dulin. Lightweight class winner was Eric Brinkley. The middleweights went to Frank LeGard. Light-heavyweight class winner was Joe Downs. The heavyweights were taken by David Schayes. And the super-heavyweights were won by Brian Yersky. The Overall, 2006 Mr. Ohio title went to Master’s winner, and light-heavyweight class winner Joe Downs.
