FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - February 2006 COLUMBUS, OH - Winners from 2005 and 2004 are back to face off again for the Ms. International, Fitness International and Figure International Championship titles at the 2006 Arnold Sports Festival, while 47 others try to defeat them in these contests of feminine physique, fitness and figure.
The preliminary rounds for each of the women's events will take place Friday, March 3 at noon on the Main EXPO Stage at the Columbus Convention Center. The finals will be at 7 pm in Veterans' Memorial Auditorium. "These women's events are popular with fans since they showcase the best in professional bodybuilding, fitness and shapeliness," says Arnold Sports Festival co-producer Jim Lorimer. "The three contests show different ways female athletes choose to express themselves."
The Ms. International competition provides women athletes an opportunity to compete professionally as bodybuilders. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lorimer launched it in Columbus in 1989. Nine women have held the title in the 17 years since. 2005 winner Yaxeni Oriquen-Garcia and 2004 winner Iris Kyle head a field of 14 competitors. The 14 Fitness International competitors will be judged in categories of strength, body tone, shape, flexibility, creativity, choreography, athletic competence and overall quality of performance, Lorimer said. 2005 winner Jennifer Hendershott and 2004 winner Adela Garcia are bound to make it a tight contest again this year. During the Figure International competition, twenty women with the world's fittest, most shapely female physiques will be judged in two rounds of posing, Lorimer said. The figure contest differs from the fitness event in that it does not judge acrobatic skills and routines as a part of the competition. Jenny Lynn, who has won the contest every year since its inception in 2003, returns to defend her title.
A $10 daily ticket to the Arnold Fitness EXPO includes access to the 3 women's events prejudging rounds and other competitions. Tickets for the finals are $50 and $75; finals are at Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are available at the doors or from Ticketmaster, (614) 431-3600, or at www.ticketmaster.com.
