As I sit next to the editor-in-chief of bodybuilding.com, it occurs to me just how surreal my life has become. Here I am in the V.I.P. section of the crowd among the Big Wigs of the health and fitness industry like Dave Palumbo, Kris Gethin and Peter McGough to admire the physiques of the fitness, figure and female bodybuilders that I've grown to admire through the years. Each category exemplifies a certain look that no matter who you are or where you live, you can appreciate. There are more sequins than the Atlantic Ocean, more smiles than a Crest toothpaste commercial and more flashbulbs than a graduation ceremony. It's the 20th anniversary of the Ms. International competitions and we expect nothing less than stellar performances from each and every women. Here's hoping they don't disappoint.
Could be a little tighter. She should hold her poses longer because when she's relaxed, she looks soft. There's a thin film of water over her. Great presentation and confidence when she walks.
Beautiful. Could've used a little more muscle control becauer her glutes and hams were shaking during her quarter turns. Shredded serratus and shredded arms. Really great upper body.
Back isn't as cut as the other girls. A couple years ago, she had a wrist injury which could have hindered her back training.
Mindy O'Brien: Hard legs. With a little more dieting, she could have been a bodybuilder. Beautiful smile and poise. Has great ham/quad separation, which we won't see with the other women. As usual, too full and defined. She was in the 3rd, 4th and 5th callouts. This means that the judges don't quite know how to rate her physique, so they have to keep comparing her to different women. Kim Klein: Really full, massive quads. Accentuates her excellent X-frame.
Extremely tall. Solid leg development. Hit the medium between being too hard and too soft. It's great because she also has the symmetry and muscularity to carry it.
Tiny, waspish waist. No real stand-out bodypart. Nice, flowing lines. Very beautiful and feminine.
Favourite to win. Muscular legs. Teardrops (vastus medialis) have really come a long way since last year. There are muscles are snaking around her legs. And she's also extremely beautiful, which helps in a figure competition. When she's on stage, in line, your eyes just can't help but gravitate towards her. Her downfalls are that from the front, she could be too hard. She's also noticeably smoother from the back than she is from the front. Lastly, she's just not as developed from the rear.
Chastity Sloan: Very hard and vascular. Probably more conditioned than most of the athletes. As she was staying idly in the line, she just kept getting harder and harder, towards the end, there was actually a garden hose vein snaking up her arm. It was crazy! Sonya Adcock: One of the most beautiful competitors this morning. Her beauty was almost too blinding; the lights for the stage just went out as she was finishing her figure walk. Natalie Benson: Looks really great. Tiny waist. Very feminine. Shoulders have gotten bigger this year, probably to enhance her V-taper. They're almost at the point of overpowering the rest of her body. Her clavicles are so wide, she may not even have to train shoulders. Her experience shows from the way she carries herself on stage and poses. She's not equally proportioned; she's wide from the front, but flat. Latisha Wilder: Beautiful poster girl for figure. Not too hard, not too soft. Really exemplifies what figure should look like. Great symmetry. Full muscle bellies. Usually has long, flowing hair, but she decided to cut it this year which helps to accentuate her back and shoulders. The judges would have probably liked to see her harder. Krystal Richardson: Amazing leg development from both the front and the rear. Also has beautiful, but not too overpowering, traps.
First and foremost, I have to give props to the women who had the most striated glutes of anyone onstage. Though she was a little flat in the rest of her body. She had unbelievable legs. Great separation from triceps to biceps. Really sharp lower lats and has improved her back thickness from last year. Esceptional quad separation, she just needs more sweep and hamstring separation.
Unbelievable V-taper. Really clean and polished look. Hamstrings keep getting better and bigger. Awesome quad separation. Her back is thick and shapely. She's also very full and dense. She probably owns this contest right now.
Rosemary Jennings: Looks bigger, harder and sharper than she has in the past. Unfortunately, her waist has put on size as well. Holding a bit of water throughout her lower body. Her back is super thick and her lower lats are exceptional. Dayana Cadeau: First thing I noticed was that she was holding a bit of water. Could get marked down for wearing a G-string. She looks great in the upper body, but looks smooth from the rear (her legs are holding most of the water). Crazy vascularity in the upper body. She could look sharper. Hopefully, it will improve as the day goes on. Tazzie Columb: Massive. Her limbs are starting to look a little too small for her torso. Her glutes are striated, but she was a lot harder at this time last year. Thick back. Legs are a bit small for her torso. Betty Pariso: Striated glutes on a 50-year old. Craziness! Her upper body is great and big, but her lower body is a bit small. She has great separation all over. She's really hard and grainy, which is cool to see in a female. Her shoulders, delts and arms are definitely a stand-out. Yaxeni Oriquen: Unbelievable quad striations. Best shape we've seen her in a long time. Full and separated everywhere. From the side, her biceps and triceps shots were standouts. She had the audience in awe when she hit a side chest. Her only problem is that her calves are a little weak.
