The key to using this machine correctly is finding the correct stride setting to match how you would actually be running were you doing it for real. If you can't match your stride to the machine, you're going to have a lot of trouble in getting the rhythm of movement correct in order to enjoy using it.
Once you find the right stride and thus find your rhythm, start at level 1 on resistance until you find that going 45-60 min @ roughly 8mph pace isn't challenging you. Then bump it to level 2, and so on. While you can easily go faster on this machine, raising the resistance instead will turn this into a killer glute workout as well as giving you excellent cardio training, without clinging to a StairMaster for an hour.-See Less
