I found that I maxed out my gym's machine (around 400 lbs I think) rather quickly and that this placed enormous compressive force on my spine and back long before it was ready for it - at the time I barely squatted 200 for 5's. When it comes to calf exercises, this is like comparing leg press to squats in that it allows you to move unreasonably large weights due to favorable leverage.-See Less
