This is indeed THE key exercise, as well as nutrition, to building strength or mass on ANY part of the body. If you want to build biceps, do bicep exercises and squats. If you want to build traps, do trap exercises and squats. If you want to build your chest, do chest exercises and squats. If you are physically able and are trying to either build muscle mass or strength and are not using this exercise you are simply wasting your time or not coming close to the full potential of your efforts. No other leg exercise will tear up as many different muscles as severely as this compound exercise.
I personally tried leg presses and other workouts and stayed stagnant in my gains in strength and mass. Once I worked the squat in my gains were DRAMATIC. No other exercise will force your body to release the same amount of human growth hormone and testosterone into your body and into the muscles through out it. Squats will literally alter the chemical content of your body to grow and strengthen muscle as well as any other part that grows. This is why professional boxers, football players, body builders, swimmers bicyclists, runners, physical therapists, gymnasts, rock climbers, ballet dancers, old ladies, baseball players, teen beginners and all those in between use this exercise for strength building, recovery and sustainment.
To put it in simple terms, 2,000 years ago man was doing the squat to build muscle and he will be doing it for another 2,000 years.-See Less
