Farmer's Walk Guide

Main Muscle: Forearms

  1. There are various implements that can be used for the farmers walk. These can also be performed with heavy dumbbells or short bars if these implements aren't available. Begin by standing between the implements.
  2. After gripping the handles, lift them up by driving through your heels, keeping your back straight and your head up.
  3. Walk taking short, quick steps, and don't forget to breathe. Move for a given distance, typically 50-100 feet, as fast as possible.

Oct 28, 2013 4:31 PM: Increases grip strength as well. I hold two dumbbells at the broad side where the weights are, grab as hard as I can, and walk twice around my gym for each set. I take off my gloves when doing this.

Make sure to squeeze your fingers while doing this.

Oct 15, 2013 2:18 PM: Hands down one of my favorite exercises! It's the easiest to do too. Since I weigh 184 lbs., I carry 95 lb. dumbbells in each hand and walk a total of 2520 ft.

Oct 14, 2013 1:06 PM: Devilishly simple to do, with major payoffs! I do this at the end of my upper body workout, start with the heaviest dumbbells I can carry and work my way down to 20s. Rinse and repeat till I can't even pick the 20s up.
