Barbell Glute Bridge Guide

Main Muscle: Glutes

  1. Begin seated on the ground with a loaded barbell over your legs. Using a fat bar or having a pad on the bar can greatly reduce the discomfort caused by this exercise. Roll the bar so that it is directly above your hips, and lay down flat on the floor.
  2. Begin the movement by driving through with your heels, extending your hips vertically through the bar. Your weight should be supported by your upper back and the heels of your feet.
  3. Extend as far as possible, then reverse the motion to return to the starting position.

Sep 25, 2012 11:24 AM: If you're supposed to drive through with your heels, then why (in the video) is the guy lifting his heels off the ground?....is that proper form for this? Because it seems contrary to the verbal instructions. I'd like to try it but I'm confused.

May 29, 2012 4:20 PM: I tried this exercise for the first time 3 days ago and my glutes are still sore. It's challenging to get a really nice burn in my glutes, but this exercise did it for me. I love it and can't wait to use it with my clients!
