How Did You Get Started?
I would have never stepped foot on stage if my husband (boyfriend at the time) had not taken me for the first time to a local bodybuilding/fitness competition. As a matter of fact, after pre-judging of my first time competing in figure, he proposed! I was no stranger to lifting since my father was a power lifter and I was a high school and collegiate volleyball player.
My mother has been an inspiration as well. She and I completed our personal training certification together. Five years ago, I would not have guessed that I would be on a national level stage, but last year I missed my Pro Card by 1 point at Jr. Nationals, I'm still in shock!!!!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I had to work the hardest to bring out my legs. Here is the workout plan that worked best for me:
Heavy Leg Day:
- Heavy Squats 4 sets of 10
- Leg Press 3 x 10
- Hack Squat 3 x 10
- Leg Extensions 3 x 10
- Leg Curls 3 x 10
- Straight leg deadlift 3 x 10
Light Leg Day: (usually 3 days apart)
- Front Squats 3 x 15
- Leg Extensions 7 x 15
Leg Curls 7 x 15
- Walking Weighted Lunges 3 x 20
***I trained legs twice a week like this for 1 year to build my legs and develop more shape, however beware that those heavy squats will pack on the booty, too!!! ***For the past 2 years, I have incorporated a lot of plyometric leg workouts to condition and shape my legs and butt, such as jump squats, pop squats, jump lunges, box jumps
- Lateral Raises 3 x 15
- One Arm Overhead Press 3 x 15
Pop Push Ups 3 x 6-8
- Front In/Out Raises 3 x 1
- Bear Crawls
- Mountain Climbers
- Pull ups 3 x 10
- One Arm Rows 3 x 15 each arm
- Lat Pulldowns 3 x 15
- Deadlift Squat Thrusts (aka Burpies)
- Hyperextensions 3 x 20
*For 1 year every other workout, I would go as heavy as possible on deadlifts
For arms, I just work into my other workouts or during my boot camp style workouts.
- 5 sets of touching every step
- 5 sets of touching every other step
- 5 sets of 2-footed hops on every other step
- 5 sets of stair walking lunges
- 5 running laps up/around and back down stairs
Now this is where it gets good! I have a love/hate relationship with crazy cardio workouts. My husband loves to push me through an intense sprint session including 100 yd sprints, 50 yd sprints, and suicides on the football field. I also love running stairs and bleachers.
Sample Bleacher/Stair Workout:
There is this really, really steep hill that I almost die trying to run up, but I still go and go up and down at least 5 times. I highly recommend hill running for a tight, hamstring/glute tie in!

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I can't think of a reason not to love fitness. It adds a certain joy to my life. Fitness makes me feel good inside and out. As a Special Education Teacher, I work with a variety of students with disabilities. Each of my students has something unique or an area where they excel.
To motivate the unmotivated learner, I have to stay motivated myself; fitness does that for me. I thank God for giving me a healthy body and mind. I am thankful for the strength and ability to compete.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
As far as my future plans, I will continue to travel and compete in the NPC national shows. I try to focus on one show at a time; and bring my best to each one. My goal at the moment is to win my class this year, but I celebrate all of my victories, big or small, and keep on chugging to the next show.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
My best advice for other competitor is to take it a day at a time and never forget to have fun! The diet/training takes a toll on us; but keep the joy in your heart or you will burn out fast. Set small goals and celebrate each one as you succeed.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
I have lots of favorite competitors. Of course, I have to mention all of my local competing buds, Jennifer Gates, Tabitha Smith, Kira Neuman, Claire Davies, Craig and Becky Hall, Jack Wilkerson, and all the others at JP's Premier Fitness. In the pros, Gunter is my favorite male bodybuilder. I admire all of the ladies in fitness and figure, each one brings something great to the sport. In the past few years, Valerie Waugaman has been my favorite figure competitor.
