How Did You Get Started?

As a kid I was told by my mom not to weight train because I would end up looking like a man (nonsense) she thought of it as a male sport and that girls should not lift weights, but I remember sneaking into the basement where my dad had dumbbells and a weight bench. I loved exercising then, but my passion really began after the birth of my 1st child.

After my beautiful little girl was born I dedicated myself to taking care of my child never making time for myself. I was not happy with the way my body looked but most of all I was unhappy with the way I felt. I was underweight, unhealthy and out of shape so I picked up a muscle magazine to look up some exercises and noticed a beautiful, muscular, yet feminine model (Ava Cowan) on the cover and immediately thought "I want abs just like that!" That sounds so funny to me right now because at the time I was clueless and thought it would be so easy but after months of training I realized that it wasn't as easy as it looked.

Wanting to gain more knowledge about exercise and nutrition I became a certified personal trainer and from that point on I was hooked. I developed a passion for fitness and dreamt of competing one day.

It wasn't until my 2nd child was born when I decided that it was time I push myself to reach my goals and so I began training harder and after a few months decided that I would compete. I entered my first competition where I placed 1st in my division and won the Overall title and by the way, my mother doesn't think weight lifting is just for males anymore! Matter of fact, at 60 years old I have her working out too.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

In the past I have used Beverly International, and BSN products, but currently I'm using ON 100% Gold Standard When Protein and Glutamine and have noticed positive results.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love the way it makes me feel! When I challenge myself and reach my goals I feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment. Staying healthy and active helps me on my day to day life. I'm able to keep up with my two beautiful children a 6 year old and an 18 month old. I also love to help other people learn how to improve their lives through exercise and healthy eating.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

Knowing that I'm doing something positive for myself and at the same time I'm setting a good example for my family. I also get motivated by looking at my progress photos and seeing how much my body has changed since I began this journey. I'm in the best shape of my life (so far) and feel real good!

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

Wanting to prove to myself that I could be focused and determined and that I could do anything I set my mind to.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I plan to compete on a national level and obtain my pro card. I want to compete against the best in the sport but to do so I have to train harder than ever before. I also want to inspire people just like the cover model inspired me when I picked up that magazine back in 2005.

I also want for moms to know that taking care of their bodies is just as important as taking care of their children and that by doing so they're doing something positive for the entire family.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Follow your dreams and don't ever give up! Train hard to be the best and always surround yourself with positive people.

What Features Do You Use On

I like the Workout Tracker because it keeps track of the exercises, number of sets of and repetitions. This is a good way to keep track of what has worked for me in the past. I also like the way the Body Stats section has a chart that changes every time I update my weight, etc. My favorite feature is the Progress Photos section, this allows me to compare photos and see how my body changes with time. It's a great tool to use and stay motivated. The site is great!
