How Did You Get Started?

I was in the Australian Olympic gymnastics squad as a young girl, which has always made me very competitive. I also danced, rode horses, was a member of a national cheerleading and marching squad; but after leaving gymnastics I still had an itch to become a professional athlete. I moved back to California from Australia in the year 2000 and saw a fitness show on TV one day. At my age I thought that it was something I could start and still have a chance of being a pro. I began training with Kim Oddo and he got me ready for the 2002 LA Fitness Championships where I placed 4th and the Ironman where I placed 2nd. That December I met my trainer (at the time) who trained me for the NPC 2003 LA Championships where I won the fitness overall and figure short class title. I went on the next week to take 7th at the USA's in the fitness short class.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

As far as weight training is concerned I do a three day on, one day off program where I hit back & bis, shoulders tris & chest and legs on the last day. I do cardio 6 days a week and I do two a days for 45 min when show time gets close. I also dance, do gymnastics and do my skill and flexibility training at least twice a week. When I get burnt out from the gym I go hiking or for a run on the beach to get me motivated again.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I eat 6 meals a day and balance the four of them evenly with protein and carbs. Here is an example of this years competition diet.

  1. 1/2 cup oatmeal, 6 egg whites & 1 cup melon
  2. 4 oz yam 5 oz lean meat
  3. 1 cup rice 5 oz lean meat & 1 cup green veggies
  4. 4 oz yam 5 oz lean meat
  5. 6 oz salmon and a large salad
My food stays the same offseason, but I just slightly increase my portions.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

Glutamine and BCAA's has significantly helped with my recovery over the years and Prolab's Lean Mass Matrix meal replacement has helped me stick to my diet when I'm traveling to appearances and in a bind.

Prolab Nutrition is also currently my sponsor and with their support they have made my career even more enjoyable. Their cutting edge supplements have really given me an edge against the other competitors.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

Fitness is a sport where you live it every hour of every day. You reap the rewards not just from the pure thrill of being on stage but from feeling and looking great all of the time. Fitness is a showcase of the best-rounded athletes both physically and mentally.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

As far as competing goes I am currently in training for the 2004 USA's where I am shooting for my procard. Ultimately after that the next goal is to win the fitness Olympia title. I continue pursuing to bring health and fitness into others' lives as well as assist athletes in achieving their own dreams.

With time I am also looking at building some solid physical education programs for children in schools around the world. I have always had a passion of working with kids.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Always exude confidence while you're on stage. Let the audience see and feel what is going on inside your heart and show them that you did it. Strive to be the best that you can be by your standards and not anyone elses. If you go up there trying to please anyone but yourself you will fail every time. Remember you are a winner for just being there.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

I have always loved Kelly Ryan for no other reason than she genuinely loves what she does. This one simple factor then shows in the caliber of her physique, the top-notch routines time and time again and her beautiful showmanship. My favorite bodybuilder at the time taught me the real meaning of competing and has shown me how to really enjoy the sport no matter what happens.
