How Did You Get Started?
My brother Darin got me started in working out to get fit for hockey. When he left to become an OPP officer I continued working out for the fun of it. Approximately three years ago he got a transfer back to our home town and we began training together. I never thought much about competing nor did I ever think I could do it. My brother on the other hand has always been into the lifestyle and he quickly convinced me otherwise. By him teaching the rigors of true intensity and heavy compound training along with the ritual of eating large to get large I started getting stronger and noticing results. The more he taught the more I began to love it. A year ago, he suggested we enter out first competition and I reluctantly agreed. The rest is history... We both entered the competiton, I took first in the heavyweights and he took a controversial third in the middleweights. He also took the most muscular award for the competition. Bodybuilding brought us closer together as brothers and best friends.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
One body part a day five days a week (Chest, Legs, Shoulders, Back, Arms). I train the large bodyparts for a total of 12 sets, smaller bodyparts for 9 sets. Repetitions are at 6-8 in the offseason and 8-15 during contest preparation. Each set is taken to failure. Intensity is the key. I am in the gym no longer that 1 hour at a time. You do not grow in the gym. Off days I do 20 -30 min of cardio to aid in recuperation.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
CNP Propeptide and Pro MR. These are the best supplements that I have ever used. Actually since I started using them I have noticed greater strength increases and I feel that they were instrumental in keeping muscle durring hardcore dieting.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I feel that once it is in your blood it is a hard thing to shake. It becomes as natural as walking or breathing. Bodybuilding has the abilty to lift my mood and gives me the strength to get through even the hardest day. It makes you feel strong and confident and it keeps you striving, not just in the gym but in life. It has brought me out of a shell so to speak. I feel that with the discipline a person gains through the rigors of bodybuilding they can accomplish anything in life with ease. I love the feeling of not just being the average guy. By setting goals and achieving them a person is not just living... they are living to gain total potential... bodybuilding is this. A quote from Musclemag sums up the bodybuilding creed: "Bodybuilders have no shrines other than the stacks of iron that challenge us. Our altar... the squat rack."
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
Future plans are to one day become a police officer and continue the family tradition. I have began training for the next competition year where I have my sights on the Northern Ontario Championships.
