How Did You Get Started?
I was actually a gymnast for 14 years and after I was finished competing in gymnastics I realized I could not lose the drive to compete for something. I decided to start lifting in order to keep my gymnast body. I met up with my first training partner when I lived on Long Island in NY and she was a National Heavyweight competitor at the time.
She turned me on to the competitive side of bodybuilding and lead me to my first two victories, one on Long Island and the second in the NY Mets, finishing up in the Jr. USA's in which I qualified for Nationals back then in 2000. After that I took some time off to pursue my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and my Master's Degree in School Counseling. I currently work as a middle school counselor and am always on my toes!! I decided that once I was settled in my career that I would continue to pursue my other dream of becoming a Professional bodybuilder.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I train each body part once a week, taking two days off during the off season, usually Thursday's and Sunday's. I love to split legs. I believe that if you are training your quads to their max then you don't have the energy to hit anything else on that day ;-) During contest prep, I am in the gym every day with two 45 min. sessions of cardio each day, except leg day where there is only one 45 min. session.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
On the off season anything goes!! HAHAHA... especially Sushi!! During contest prep, I keep my protein high with only oatmeal and sweet potato's as my carbs.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I have loved the sport all my life. As a child I was OBSESSED with The Incredible Hulk and had my room painted and carpeted GREEN!!! I enjoy the competitiveness of the sport and seeing to what limits I can take my body.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I plan on competing in Nationals down in Miami on Nov. 11th. I would love to turn pro but just being there on stage is good enough for me. I will keep competing as long as I am healthy and happy.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Stay focused!! You have to remain steadfast on your goals and let nothing stop you from achieving your best. There is a saying that I have in my office, it was said by the great Muhammad Ali, and I read it every time I feel myself slipping; "Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a last - minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill."
