How Did You Get Started?
Three years ago, my younger sister worked the front desk at our gym. The owner, a bodybuilder, offered to train her to compete. She was slightly intimidated and asked me to do the show with her. Unfortunately, we both caught a horrific virus 3 weeks out of the show and wound up not able to compete.
The following year, I told a friend that I was thinking of competing again. I had the suits and wanted to put them to use as well as push my body past its comfort zone. He looked at me, laughed and said, "Yeah right, Rosanne, you can't give up eating and drinking." I glared directly back into his eyes, smiled and said, "Watch me!"For more about me visit:
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I am currently using a blood volume work out program. I do high reps with moderate to light weight, usually to failure. Focusing more on slow, complete reps and proper form has improved the overall shape of my physique. Nothing burns like a good blood pump! I'm using a 6-day split, focusing on 1 body part per day and add alternate abs and calves at the end of each work out. I do, however, throw in a heavy, low rep work out every so often in the off season just for fun!
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
My body responds extremely well to a carb cycling approach. In season, my trainer adjusts my carbs and calories according to her weekly assessment. We typically keep carbs and fats pretty low. Off season, I continue to eat clean but we add more balance and allow for some cheats.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I like to use whey protein post work out and before bed. My favorite brands are Optimum Nutrition (Cookies and cream, Chocolate Mint and Vanilla Ice Cream) and Champion Whey (Vanilla). When I'm cutting, I add topical yohimbe to my supplement regimen. My favorite brand is Lipoderm-Ultra by Avant Labs. I also like Avant Labs' H.E.A.T. Stack for mood enhancement and sometimes use Dymatize Liquid Amp'd if I'm really low energy. Its one of the best stimulants I've found.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I tend to be an extremist. Everything in my life is all or none. I have found a true passion in fitness, its something I can pour my everything into. I am also extremely intrigued by the physiology of the human body. It amazes me when I learn the science behind a new theory or watch my body morph when I put a new one into practice.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
After three seasons, I have qualified for nationals and am planning on attaining my long awaited goal of walking across a national stage. I'm currently off-season prepping for my national debut at next year's Team Universe. (You can follow me on my journey to the Team Universe at rosanneclemente.blogspot.com) As far as my long term fitness plans, I'll ride this as far as it will take me. As long as I keep setting and attaining personal goals, I'll be content. It would also be fun to pick up sponsors and modeling jobs offered along the way.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Listen to one person and one person ONLY! When you start training, suddenly everyone in the gym, everyone at work, everyone... well... everywhere becomes a "guru." They start offering (read: rudely imposing on you) advice. Their way is most always the "right way" and everyone else's theory is just "wrong;" while often your trainer is usually just "crazy!" (Yes, I'm saying this while rolling my eyes!) I just politely smile and nod as I ignore what they are saying. Well, unless I'm really low carb... that's when I just turn up the volume on my ipod and look down to avoid catching the eye of any lingering "guru".
Remember, there are 14 gazillion different ways to go about prepping for a show and all 14 gazillion individual plans will get you there. But you can't mix and match or you will wind up using conflicting theories. My advice is to find one trusted person whose approach you agree with and fully commit yourself to them and them only. This way when things start to get tough and you start doubting your progress (its only natural, we all do!), you have an outsider in the driver's seat and you can click over to autopilot. I always say, my coaches are the brains and I'm the muscles of the mission... which is kind of ironic when you're working under elite bodybuilders. heehee!
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
My beautiful coach, female bodybuilder and Strongwoman Competitor, Elena Seiple. Elena's heart is as big as her lat spread!!! With her knowledge and expertise, I was finally able to nail my conditioning and win a show. Also, when I first started training, Monica Brant and Davana Medina were on top of the sport. Through out the years, they have always remained my favorite figure athletes. In my eyes, all three of these women have not forgotten their roots or let fame go to their heads, as they each illustrate the epitome of beauty, grace and class.
