How Did You Get Started?
I got into bodybuilding my sophomore year in high school (Walnut Ridge, Columbus Ohio), where a police officer (Ron Howell) kept harassing me about bodybuilding saying, "You should consider doing a show." I took his advice and started to do my own research. At that time, I was in a relationship with my now ex girl friend (Alisha Joyce) we both were similarly interested and curious in finding more information on bodybuilding. She and I both sought out for some additional help regarding posing, dieting, training ect.
There were several people that played an integral part and came to our rescue, as we need it immensely while trying to prepare for our first bodybuilding show. One name that comes so vividly to mind was a mentor and a dear friend of mine (Walter D Smith). Walter was very knowledgeable and a local celebrity bodybuilder at the time. He played the role as a mentor; advisor and most importantly the role of a friend as well as the role of the one that would help us finalize everything when it came to our preparation regarding bodybuilding.
Another person who came to our rescue was Ron Howell (the police officer working out of Columbus Ohio). Ron played the role of a sponsor, mentor, and most importantly the role of a friend that we could count on. He would take us to competitions and give us extra advice as he already been in the business for a long time and was very knowledgeable. The others that played an important role getting me started in bodybuilding were good friends with my ex girlfriend. It has been nearly 9 years the last time I saw or spoke to them, so I do not remember their names. With the help of all those people that I was blessed with, I started training for my first bodybuilding show in 1999, which I won. From than on, the rest is history.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Since I have been a complete athlete all my life, I have several training regimens I adhere by. I have the experience and knowledge of playing several sports. I played soccer up to my freshmen year of college, I ran track while in high school, I played football in high school as well as college, and I wrestled while I was in high school. Not to mention, I also did bodybuilding while in high school. Now, all those sports I played all have different workout regimens therefore, I really cannot say which workout plan works best for me unless you inquiring and wondering about a specific sport I played. If you go on my site (www.prinstonmartyn.com) under the training section, there are free training tips, contest preparation guide, and more should you still find yourself curious and wanting to know more of what I do on a normal everyday basis working out wise.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
Being that I am involved with other physical fitness activities, besides bodybuilding, I am always on a different diet program. When I am preparing my self for a football or bodybuilding off-season encounter, I eat to gain quality weight. The foods I consume in carbohydrate includes Pasta, potatoes, rice and planters nuts. My protein includes fish, steak, chicken, beef, whole eggs, and or tuna. My vegetables include salads, or broccoli. My fats include the yoke from my eggs. I drink one to two gallon of water through out the day. When I am preparing for a modeling shoot, or a bodybuilding show, I get on my regular bodybuilding pre contest diet which can be found on my website as well (www.prinstonmartyn.com)
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
To be completely honest, I am not one, who regularly enjoys taking supplementation, as it is not part of my regular taste buds. If and when I do take any supplementation, I would take L-Glutamine 500 mg, which is good to help my recovery time from my workouts and it also supports my immune system. Taraxatone, which I use to help extract excess water out of me. Finally I would use Glucosamine Chondroitin Sulfate, which is use to help cushion and lubricate your joints. The other supplements I prefer taking are my vitamins, which are (selenium, high potency B, calcium, magnesium and zinc, vitamin E, Potassium, and Vitamin C 1000 mg, and soluble fiber caps). Other than that, I eat my foods as they already and naturally provides all the nutrients one will ever need to have a complete and balanced diet.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
The reason I love bodybuilding as a career, sport, and well being, is because it allows me to express my self artistically while I am on stage performing. It has gives me self-ambition, it helped me become self-discipline, self dedicated, and has taught me some serious self-motivation as well as being very self-assertive. Through my bodybuilding mentality, I have persevered through so many hardships, obstacles, complications, and lifelong problems. Those same mentalities that bodybuilding has equipped me with, I still apply it to my everyday life and endeavors.
It is extremely volatile and pertinent in ones life should they chose to be successful in life. It gives one meaning and puts ones life in perspective. Without it, I do not know how far I would have gotten. It is my life and it is my existence. Without it I am nothing. As we all know our body is our temple and must take good care of it should we want to live a long time. Bodybuilding has helped me protect my body, it gives it the possibility and insurance of making sure I can extend the probability of its longevity.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
My future bodybuilding plan is to become a strong and powerful force in the bodybuilding industry. I want to move, aspire, and motivate anyone I would encounter. I want to use bodybuilding as a catapult and a vessel of trying to get discovered for my other talents such as acting, and modeling should I be giving a chance to.
As of now, my bodybuilding plans as far is making it a professional career and or competing on stage with the big boys as of yet, is on hold. It is on hold due to my immigration status. Hopefully my Immigration problems will change so that I can pursue my bodybuilding dreams. On the other hand, if I do not pursue it on a competitive level, I will still be taking care of my self athletically. Like I said before, being physically fit has always and will always be a part of my natural born life.
Whether I compete as amateur or a professional, I will always be involved with bodybuilding. I am currently seeking sponsorship for those who are financially capable, personally, and sincerely believe in my potential as a bodybuilder and want to sponsor me. Should you be that person, please contact me via my website (www.prinstonmartyn.com). I am a very business savvy individual that loves to venture in business opportunities.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
The one tip I would like to extend to all and any interested bodybuilders as well as the advance and professional bodybuilders is to read. Knowledge is extreme power. Please, arm your self with all the necessary and substantial resources and credible information so that u will not be left in the dark. Do not just listen to some one you trust of rely on for information.
You have to be very responsible for you own knowledge that you pick up on and trust that you are doing the right thing. Do not jeopardize your health, life, or body trying to impress others or your self. Life is too short. Live it naturally as possible and do all you need to preserve it as you only have one life to live.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
There are many bodybuilders I admire. Most importantly I appreciate them for their hard work, dedication and consistency in the industry. Ultimately, there are only a few I can honestly say I look up to, admire, respect, and would like to emulate.
Starting with number one, which is Shawn Ray. I look up to Shawn because of his business savvy and his ability to speak what's on his mind as I see my self behaving the same way regarding, speaking my mind and aspiring to being more business savvy as he is. I also look up to him because he is one of the main and former bodybuilder that actually sticks his head and his voice out for the majority of other bodybuilder wanting and demanding a change in the sport. I admire him for that as well. Job well-done Shawn Ray.
Other bodybuilder I respect is Ronnie Coleman, one can only respect his hard work, dedication, and consistency he has exemplified for over eight years straight now in the sport. He is a true warrior and inspiration of the sport of bodybuilding. Go break the record this year and set your own Ronnie.
The one final bodybuilder, I admire, respect and would like to emulate is Dexter "The Blade" Jackson. Dexter is the one bodybuilder I would not mind emulating. He and I are about the same height and have somewhat similar genetics. He was a former football player as so was I. He motivates me to want to continue pursuing bodybuilding because his body to me does not scare the majority of the women fans. He is very approachable, and highly humble as so am I. He represents the shorter bodybuilders and is more on the symmetrical and well-balanced side. He is very dedicated, discipline, and hardworking as his conditions speaks volume for its self every time he stands on any stage.
Should I choose to continue this sport, it will be accredited to athletes like Dexter "The Blade" Jackson for their love, respect, and discipline for the sport of bodybuilding. Dexter, I hope you go and take that Arnold Classic again as you deserved to win every time you won.
