How Did You Get Started?
I started working out about 15 years ago. I was 19 years old and had just recently married my high school sweetheart (to whom I am still married). I was working in a retail store and one day I caught a glimpse of myself in one of the mirrors. I was wearing a lime green bodysuit and I actually saw a roll of fat on my waist . I was mortified! I took a second look to make sure I was seeing correctly. Sure enough, there it was again. I said heck no, this is not happening. And, as they say, "the rest is history." I have been working out ever since.
I have always wanted to participate in figure competitions, but I allowed my fears to prevent me from stepping on that stage. About a year ago, my husband and I sat in the audience and watched a figure competition that he had begged me to participate in. But once again, my fear along with a ton of excuses, prevented me from competing.
After we watched the competitors come on stage, my husband turned to me and said, "you know, you belong up there." "How are you going to teach Rajon (our 3 year old son) to face his fears and believe in himself, if you can't even do it." That statement really struck a nerve, but I knew it was the truth. Those words are now my driving force.
So, I decided to enter the next figure competition. Working full time and having a family definitely presented some challenges in establishing a workout schedule. I wanted my preparation for this competition to have as little impact as possible on my family. I kept telling myself, "where there is a will, there is a way." With that, I got up at 2:30 a.m. to go to the gym and worked out for 2 hrs a day, 7 days a week. On competition day, I felt great and was truly on top of the world. I placed 3rd in my class.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I did an hour of cardio 7 days a week. My weight training included working my shoulders and calves twice a week using low weight and high reps. I worked my abs every other day. I trained my other body parts only once a week using low weight and high reps.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I worked with the Master of Nutrition, Kim Oddo (www.bodybyo.com), and he truly worked his magic. I ate 6 small meals a day, which consisted of veggies, lean meats, and complex carbs. He told me what to eat and I ate it! No questions asked! He is AWESOME!

Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love fitness because it is such a beautiful thing. I am always amazed and inspired to see women who have changed their lives as well as their bodies through fitness. I am living proof that fitness carries over into other parts of your life. I am a better Wife, Mother, Friend, Co-worker, and Employee because I feel good about myself and that radiates in all aspects of my life.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I will continue to workout and condition my body as I will be competing in 2007. I would eventually like to earn my Pro card so I can compete with the TOP DOGS! In addition, I would love to do some fitness modeling, acting, etc.
I know fitness is where I belong, therefore, my true goal is to really find my niche in the fitness industry where I can have the greatest impact on people from all walks of life.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Go for it! Education and preparation are vital! If you are not sure what you should be eating and how you should be training, enlist the help of a trainer/nutritionist or an experienced competitor.
