How Did You Get Started?

I always was into working out but never was satisfied when I looked in the mirror. I would get way into wanting to lift huge amounts of weight and gain a lot of weight to reach my lifting goals. I then would get into a phase of wanting to be really lean, so I would do a lot more cardio. I never really found a happy medium where I was satisfied with what I could lift and what I looked like in the mirror.

I decided to enter a competition initiated from my gym. And, I decided to dial in my diet and cardio/weight lifting for the next 3 months to push my body to the best shape I could possibly achieve. I was able to do that plus more than I ever expected. I ended up winning the competition and looked the best I had ever looked in my life. And I was finally extremely satisfied at the way I felt and looked.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

My workout plan was quite intense. I really did not focus on high amounts of weight, because I was more into leaning out the muscle, so my reps were in the 15-20 range per set. I was pushing as much weight as I could possibly get up, barely making my rep range. I also did 2 hours of cardio a day, 6 days a week, with 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon. Here is a sample of what I did for my weekly workout.

Day 1: Chest

Day 3: Back

Day 4: Shoulders

Day 5: Legs/Abs

Day 6:

  • Cardio: 60 minutes in the morning and 60 minutes in the afternoon.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I did this diet for the first 6 weeks and then I dropped the complex carbohydrates around dinner time for 2 weeks, and the next 2 weeks I dropped the lunch carbohydrates. The last 2 weeks, I got rid of my last complex carb source, the breakfast. I replaced these complex carbohydrates with spinach salads with raisins and nuts and vinaigrette dressing.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

The supplements that have given me the most massive gains are M.R.I. Black Powder, Alpha Lipoic Acid, MuscleTech CellTech, and Syntha-6 by BSN, and Glutamine.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love bodybuilding because it is an amazing sense of accomplishment to be able to see your body change through dieting and working out. I just love how I feel and look just by being able to push my body to new limits. And, it gives me an incentive to stay motivated and have goals to achieve. I never really liked team sports growing up, but I always liked being able to count on myself and see what I could achieve. I also love it just because being healthy and in good shape makes me feel better about myself.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

Something that really helps me to be motivated to keep a healthy lifestyle would be seeing what results from the lack of a healthy lifestyle. I work as a Die-tech at a hospital, and I always see people that have all these health problems because of poor diet and no exercise regiment within their daily life. I do not want to end up in the hospital some day knowing that I could have prevented it with exercise and working on my diet to prevent health problems. I also love the way I feel after eating healthy foods, and I feel a sense of accomplishment every time I am done with working out at the gym.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

I made a lot of small goals along the way to help me stay motivated. That really helped me stay on track to the ultimate goal of winning the contest. I loved seeing my body change each week, and when I took my weekly picture I would study it and see the changes. Even if the weight loss was not showing on the scale I could still see the results happening each week, which definitely helped me to achieve my goals. I also got a lot of support from my lovely wife. She always was there keeping me motivated throughout the contest. I also had my family involved and there was a sense of accountability when talking to them each week.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

My future in bodybuilding is really undecided right now. I have been invited to compete in August of this year. But, I am debating, since I have dieted pretty hard at the beginning of this year. I just want my body to recover and put on some size and hopefully compete in some early shows in the beginning of 2011.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

My one tip for others would be to focus on you and your goals and do not compare yourself to anyone else, the only control you have is over your diet and workout regiment. If you come in looking the best you could possibly get, you won no matter what your placing was.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

My favorite competitors are Hidetada Yamagishi and Jay Cutler. These men have great humility and are great spokesmen for the sport. I really enjoy hearing these men speak on the sport and love the way they carry themselves.

Hidetada always comes in shredded, and he is the only Japanese pro bodybuilder from Japan competing in the elite bodybuilding shows. Great inspiration. And Jay coming back and killing the competition regaining his title as the greatest bodybuilder in the world, "Mr. Olympia", the only bodybuilder in history to regain the title after losing it.

What Features Do You Use On Bodybuilding.com?

I use Bodybuilding.com as my main source to research different ingredients in supplements. I love learning the science behind a product. I also read the featured articles on the Supersite. I use the Store all the time to get my supplements, and the protein finder is really useful. I look at competition results and pre contest articles.
