How Did You Get Started?
Since I was a small child I have loved to play sports, especially softball. I did them all; track & field, volleyball, basketball. At one point I even lobbied to play football with the guys. Thank goodness no one actually let me do it as I'm sure it would have been a serious blow to my ego to get trampled by my male peers.
In high school, as part of our mandatory phys. ed. course we were introduced to weight training. We received lessons in proper use of free weights and machines as well as instruction in developing a work out plan which we then implemented. I loved it! I had never felt so alive and aware of my body. The feeling I got from walking out of the locker room with my muscles swollen and hard was euphoric. I've been hooked ever since.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Not having a formal workout plan works best for me. It's probably bad advice to even say it but, honestly, for the people out there like me who get bored with a workout schedule after the second day, there's hope for you yet.
Since I get bored and distracted very easily, I have found that I spend a lot less time beating myself up if I don't restrict myself to an unyielding schedule. For example, if I am trying to work out each muscle group once a week, perhaps I'll work on chest and arms Monday of this week.
Next Monday, I might feel like working legs and glutes so I'll put off chest and arms until Tuesday. For the most part, I work out each muscle group weekly, some twice, but not always in the same order or in the same way. I do some form of cardio every day.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
Healthy eating is a lifestyle for me. I was fortunate enough to be raised to eat wholesome, organic foods that are naturally low in fat, preservatives, and sugar. My diet has been healthy and well balanced since I was born. I eat multiple servings of chicken and/or fish every day along with plenty of veggies, spinach salads, rice, potatoes, and high fiber - whole wheat breads and cereals.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
In addition to a multivitamin and calcium, the only supplement I use on a regular basis is the Fast Fuel High Performance Protein Bar. It's a great way to get some extra protein and a really yummy way to satisfy a sweet tooth.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love the way it makes me feel to be so in touch with my body. I am my own personal work of art - on display for the whole world to see.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I would like to focus on adding a bit more mass by adding a few pounds and lifting heavier weight. Also, I plan to work more intently on sculpting my body into competition form. To do this I like to study the physiques of many of the top competitors to see where I can improve my own.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Make your diet a standard of living. Don't have cheat days or even cheat meals if you can help it. I have seen too many people let a less than perfect diet impede their progress. Study what you are eating.
Read labels on EVERYTHING. Know exactly what you are putting into your body and know the body you are putting it in to. If I gain or lose one pound I know whether it's water, fat, or muscle and I know exactly where it came from. Study your food. Study your body.
