How Did You Get Started?
I started teaching fitness classes when I was 17 and fell in love with the feeling of working out. From there I ventured off into personal training. Working in a large gym I met a few women who competed and I loved the way they looked. I was very curious about competing so I decided to go and watch a fitness competition. I immediately fell in love with the sport and having a background in gymnastics, decided that doing a fitness competition would be a natural fit for my competitive nature. After my first show, I was hooked!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
My weight training workouts typically stay the same on and off season. My split is as follows:
- Day 1 - Back and Abs
- Day 2 - Chest & Biceps
- Day 3 - Shoulders and Abs
- Day 4 - Legs and Triceps
I don't do a whole lot of leg training as my quads develop quickly.
My exercises change frequently but I typically do 12 to 16 sets total per muscle group and my reps vary according to my goals for that body part. My cardio in the off season is about 3 - 4 days per week for 30 minutes. When I start my contest preparation I will do cardio 7 days per week and slowly increase the duration as I get closer to the show.
I could be doing between 60 to 120 minutes of cardio per day. My cardio program is usually 3 days of interval training on the treadmill or outside, one day of running stairs or bleachers and then 3 other days of medium intensity cardio.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I think the most important aspect of nutrition for me is consistently eating clean throughout the year. I try to stay about 15 lbs out from contest weight in the off season. It hasn't always been this way. After my first show, I went crazy and ate what I wanted, when I wanted. This made my next years contest prep a very negative experience.
It was a learning experience to realize I was doing myself no favors by eating what ever I wanted. I have found by eating clean all the time, my body and mind feel better in the off season and when it comes time to start dieting for a show, it is a positive experience. I eat a lot of oatmeal and cottage cheese for my morning meals.
Usually my meals to follow would be chicken, buffalo, fish or egg whites. I also include starch in 3-5 of my meals depending on how many weeks out I am from a show. My starch only comes from whole foods, nothing refined.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
My one favorite supplement would be glutamine. I use this all year round. It is great for recovery after training. I will use whey protein in the off season as a meal replacement along with tribulus (6 weeks on, 4 weeks off). During contest preparation I like to use Thermo Lean as a fat burner because it helps to naturally raise my metabolism as opposed to just being a stimulant.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Besides loving to compete, fitness is a lifestyle. It keeps my body and mind healthy.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I am currently preparing for the 2008 Canadian Nationals in the figure short class. My goal is to place top three. From there I would like to go back to the North American Championships and place top three as well. Now that I have stepped on the national stage, it would be such a great honor to turn pro and represent Canada.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Enjoy the journey to competition. Make the best of it. Surround yourself with people who are positive and support you.
