How Did You Get Started?
I actually began training in the gym with weights at the age of 12. I began reading muscle magazines early and wanted to look like Rachel McLish. In high school I was the only girl in the weight room, but the guys were really cool and would help me with my form. I began teaching aerobics and gymnastics at 16 and began studying phys ed in college at 18. I didn’t begin dancing until I was 20 when I joined the Argonauts Cheerleading Team. I liked it so much that I began taking hip hop dance classes. That same year I was asked to start teaching hip hop and cheerleading.
I joined a professional urban dance team and they got me dance gigs in music videos, movies and commercials. Fitness competitions were a natural progression for me. They involved fitness, dance and gymnastics; all the things I loved. I entered my first fitness competition last year at FAME Canada. I placed 2nd in the routine and 4th in the model search out of 135 beautiful women. Now I’m training other girls and choreographing their routines; I love it!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I think that variety is the key. I almost never do the same workout twice. Generally I lift as heavy as possible on my upper body roughly 6-10 reps with little rest in-between. I also like to do a lot of drop sets with little rest. For my lower body I take a different approach; mainly I lift light and perform very high repetitions. Every so often I throw in a heavy workout to shock my body.
I like to do a lot of fun cardio during the off-season such as hip hop dance, and rollerblading. During the on season, I only do running, elliptical machine and spinning. I eventually perform two hours of cardio a day, plus my weight training for a total of three work outs a day. It takes a lot of dedication, but it really leans me out and makes my legs very muscular and tight.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
Off-season I don’t pay as close attention to the timing of my meals and I don’t measure anything. I still eat 5-6 small meals a day consisting of lean protein, complex carbs and healthy fats, (but I also allow myself some of my favorite treats, such as chocolate chip muffins and bananas). I’m not fanatical about my diet in the off season, but I still make a concentrated effort to eat healthy as I feel better inside and out when I do.
During the on-season my meals are timed to every 2.5 hours throughout the day. I generally eat a balance of complex carbs, protein and healthy fat for my first three meals while my last three consist of protein, healthy fat and veggies. I cut out all forms of sugar including diary and fruit 2-3 months out. This is always the hardest part at first, but once the sugar cravings subside, it gets much easier. I drink 3-4 liters of water a day and take a bunch of vitamins 2 times a day because of the stress that I am putting on my body.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Number one would have to be Protein Powder. From the first time I took it nine years ago I noticed immediate results and haven’t looked back since. Multi-Vitamins, L-Glutamine, Calcium, Vitamin C, Potassium and Flax, also Salmon or Hemp Oil have helped quite a bit.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I have been involved in fitness since I can remember. It makes me feel good about myself and I truly enjoy it. The feeling I have after a great workout or an awesome dance class cannot be replaced with any other kind of high.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Take time to meet the other girls in the show. I did that this year and I now have many new friends to talk shop with, meet up with to do cardio, and to car pool to up coming shows. It really makes all the preparation that much more fun.

The athletes that got me into working out who are my ultimate favorites are Alphie Newman, Rachel McLish, Cory Everson, Marla Duncan, and Arnold Schwartenager. My present favorites are Tanya Carlson-Merryman, Minna Lesig, Madonna Grimes, Monica Brant, and Trish Stratus.
